Owner59 -> Chinese communist government support of sex-toy shops ?! (12/31/2012 11:52:47 PM)

It`s odd and sounds weird but it`s true.Apparently porn is illegal and unfortunately, ....all things sexual were suppressed during the cultural revolution because open sexuality and sexual freedom were associated with the decadence of the west and democracy.

There is no sex ed and folks are pretty much left to figure things out on their own.

Strangely, sex toy shops have become the place where folks go to learn how to get more pleasure and happiness out of sex.The government is supporting them as mental health  ,trying to help make happier people.

"We have no choice," says Chen. "I remember one of my first customers was a very pretty girl who came in with a Louis Vuitton bag on her shoulder. She looked rich and happy, but once we began to talk, she started to cry. She said her husband was wealthy and handsome, but in the bedroom, he had no idea what foreplay was or how to do much of anything."
Chen says she gives advice to customers like this all the time. And this is just one of many things that sets apart sex shops in China from those in the U.S., says Richard Burger, author of "Behind the Red Door: Sex in China." The first rule of thumb in a Chinese sex shop is no pornography -- it’s illegal in China.
"Sex stores aren’t presented in China as places for titillation. They’re presented as places for solutions," says Burger.
Solutions brought to you, in part, by the government, which approves these shops and treats them as health care providers. "The Chinese government sees these shops as a way to make its citizens happy, healthy, and content," says Burger. "They believe that when people are having a healthy sex life they have a more functional family that adds to social stability and that in turn adds to greater tolerance for the government.”

That seems like a remarkably healthy attitude, one we could use here.

I'm not really surprised. It reminds me of the Mistress Floggers, that are made in Pakistan. People are willing to do a lot of things they claim they don't believe in if they think it will bring them money or power.

ROTFL It's pretty horrible that the benefit to the government needs to be listed in order to justify this course of action.

That said humans are a very sexual species and the cultural repression of that is quite bad for us.

What's strange about that?

In Norway, most of the sex toy shops are more than happy to provide advice and instructions, and it's a major part of the service you're paying for when you go to pick up something to spice up your sex life. Some of the sex toy shops specialize in this service, rather than the actual toys, and hospitals refer their patients to these when it comes to things like how to rehabilitate one's sex life after procedures that may impair it. Similarly, the kink toy shops provide advice, as well, and frequently personals.

One of the local shops used to have demo nights, one on one with the staff.

Well at least we know now in a circular kinda way...you can have toy-wrought communist orgasms...for the state of course.

At a local XXX shop one evening, a young lady was asking the sales person to recommend a vibrator... which happened fairly often. She finally settled on something along the lines of The Rabbit and left. She was back in a few minutes, asking why it didn't work... whereupon the staff explained to her about batteries and sold her a set of the right size.

A few minutes later she was back in the front door, holding the device aloft, and loudly asking Will somebody show me how to use this thing???. I was thinking that was rather liberated, but without batting an eye, the manager stepped over and demonstrated the On/off function... the customer had been looking for a switch of some kind, and didn't know to rotate the bottom of the toy.

With it buzzing and churning in her hand, she headed back to her car, apparently to create yet another Memphis traffic hazard on the way home.

I would've thought the manager would step over and start actually explaining how to use it, including good advice.

Would you buy a power tool from someone that doesn't know a torx bit from a hacksaw?

The taboo nature of it all is half the fun.

There are sex shops here that give lessons on sex every weekend. They had one on finding the g spot, another on fellatio and cunninlingus, foreplay, how to please your partner sexually, using props, threesomes, poly, kink, etc.....

and I've heard that there are free one on one sessions as well, not for sex but for sexual education.

So I can't say it's just a thing happening in China. I think it's become a worldwide thing. It seems with the advent of the internet and for all the porn available, many have no idea how to have sex which leads me to believe we've become much too reliant on social media to get our rocks off instead of actual skin to skin contact.

Yes I would and I'd try to get it cheap. Who cares if they know how to use the tool they're selling as long as I know how to use it.
