Anyone here ever hosted one? The scene is SO poly in SF, I am considering hosting one and was curious if people who had done one had any ideas.

My goal is to attract the sort of people who tend to shy away from the scene, have.lives and careers and are in general a bit higher end than you tend to find at your typical.munch.

Got a beautiful.upscale playspace lined up for about $400
Catering from a friend who is a.private chef for about $500

So 15 women at $20 and 15men at $40 seems realistic.

Require at least business casual or cocktail party dressy should help narrow the focus.

Three or four rounds, each with a different theme ro allow different people to shine.

Anyway, curious what ideas people have.

Excuse me, but I'm a bit puzzled about the different prices based on gender?

Ladies night. He needs women to show up. If a bunch of heterosexual men show up and no women do, the guys are NOT going to be happy with him.

@OP Where do you get your 15 and 15? Are these from RSVPs?

You mention this idea as a sort of upscale munch, and also that it would be held in a playspace.

I'm embarrassed to ask this, but does the playspace setting mean that unlike a munch, the intent is to have attendees play together? Would that be expected, or would it be more of a social gathering?

The count of 15 each of men and women is the least needed to make it a financisl go and probably the minimum needed to have enough social energy to make the evening work.

Munches rarely allow play. With rare exceptions any place thst expects you to play you should tell to fuck off.

As for allowing play later, I can see pluses and minuses. I probably will allow it afyer a certain time but I am not surr its the right crowd for quick play.

It sounds like a great idea.

What do you think is the likelihood that you'll draw that number. How are you going about promoting it?

What I see is a potential big problem is if a lot of men show up and very few women do. If you've got three or four guys for every woman there, most of them are NOT going to be happy about paying 40 bucks to get in.

Last time I ran a munch, we filled the private party room at a Hard Rock Cafe. I am doing high end gourmet dinners at local restaurants and they are mostly women. If I do it there will be plenty of women. Besides, I will control the guest list, it will be a prepaid event so no danger of too many men.

As for promoting it, fetlife and the rumor mill will do fine.

I host fetish parties from time to time.

There are a little different than what you are describing but also are very similar.

The last one I hosted was a CD tea party.
I had a formal tea service and finger sandwiches.
The CDs either came already dressed or they got dressed up there.
There was a cover charge and it was all RSVP.

I have also had foot worship parties.
I meet a lot of footies who say they simply can't meet women into foot worship.
So I invite foot chicks (yes they get part of the cover).
I have finger foods and non-alcoholic drinks.
I have different prices to get in and all RSVP.
I have a price for single men, single women, and couples.
They can simply talk and socialize or do foot worship.

If I remember correctly, the PE in San Francisco charged something like 70 for a single guy and 40 for a couple and ladies or men dressed as ladies free.

It's all about supply and demand. You need sheep so that the wolves (who are the only ones with the money to spend) will congregate in enough of a pack to cover the bills.

Ladies have money but they don't use it.

1. I am a little puzzled whether you are offering a munch or a play session thing. If the former, I am not sure why it's in a play space. If it' the latter, not sure why people would come in business casual or cocktail party dresses. And if you are specifically pitching people who "stay away from the scene," does a play space make sense?

2. Not sure what you mean by "rounds."

3. I'd suggest you closely monitor the guest lists, so you maintain a balance of men and women.

4. I live in Los Angeles, and I don't perceive the scene down here as particularly poly. In this area there are a million events. Lots of munches, which are generally free. Lots of play party stuff, which is often about $20. If you were offering basically a munch, $40 seems really high.

Michael, I wondered the same thing; is this a munch or a play session thing? I don't think $40 is too much at all though; the idea of an upscale munch held somewhere other than Denny's or the equivalent is well worth paying for.

I could see that. But I wonder if an upscale munch is out of place with a play area. Also, I think you'd need to make a big deal out of the quality of the food.

Personally, I'd pay $40 for no food at all just to stay out of Denny's or Fuddruckers.

I have been to events that were for singles only but that were always at restaurants, picnics etc. if at a restaurant, we all changed seats at certain times to ensure we got to talk with everyone.

I confess that I would be wary of gooing to a singles event, if I am not really a scenester, that was held at a play space. I would prefer somewhere where the focus is purely in meeting and mingling, maybe some icebreaker games if needed without having play equipment around.

Kudos to you Michael for seeing a need and doing something about it

Its not altruistic, I want to meet an amazing woman, fall madly in love, get married, move to the mountains, and live a simple life involving a blend of urban delights in a beautiful country setting with lots of travel to Italy and other places.

And a dear friend of mine is lobbying me hard to hold it at a restaurant and I am starting to think she is right. I am looking for ways to indirectly shape the people who choose to attend and not having it at a kink place will do just that.

The best swingers event I ever attended was a New Year's Eve black tie affair.

Yep, have it at a classy restaurant which has a dress code and that should ensure that the people who attend are of the calibre you are looking for. It should also put of the married people who want to pretennd they are single (and not in open relationships).

I would have everyone pay for what they ate rather than a cheaper amount for wommen, again you are wanting to attract women who are more than likely used to dining in medium to expensive places and more often than not, paying their own way (or is that only me that does this?).

How will you target the advertising to find the right people Michael and also who will you screen them eg. phone call, coffee meet etc with everyone to ensure there is a good mix?
