TheLilSquaw -> Do you have a fetish for acronyms? (1/9/2013 11:25:59 AM)

Since 1994, when 1st becoming involved in the BDSM lifestyle I've realized that BDSM folks have acronyms for everything.

The past couple of days there have been some that have creeped up in various posts.
So it has me wondering.

Do BDSMers and kinky folks have a fetish for acronyms?

What's your favorite lifestyle / BDSM related acroynm and what does it mean?

What is the most unusual fetish, kink, or bdsm related acronym you have seen?

LaTigresse -> RE: Do you have a fetish for acronyms? (1/9/2013 11:29:49 AM)

Is it the entirety of BDSM or moreso just online?

I see a lot online but very little otherwise. Except with some military personnel. One on particular....

I've seen some carry over into rl.
Although I do see it more online.

Ya. I think the net and text typing has created most of what you are talking about. Like that completely annoying lol that makes me want to slap people.

I can't abide them!

I gather this stems from the OSODD thread? I'd call it a label fetish more than an acronym fetish and I agree with LaT that it's more of an online thing than real world thing... although lord knows it happens in the real world too.

Not JUST the OSODD thread but there was also an AB/DL post earlier.
I've seen a few others in various posts as well.

I was at a play party a few weeks ago and a woman asked what my d/s dynamics where.
I explained mine, she said "I'm half of a DBG couple.
Granted I know what D/BG stands for but I had never heard it described like that in a r/l situation before.

No fetish here, they're just an ever present part of life.[:D]

As brats, Chaos and i both grew up thinking this was how everyone talked, until we tried talking to them.
Then the chat-rooms of the '90s came along and new ones developed. So, i guess many now just assume they'll be a part of any lingo.

Nakhla -> RE: Do you have a fetish for acronyms? (1/9/2013 11:47:20 AM)

I must disagree with JBC and LaT ( [;)] ). They do! Even in real-life! Aside from any number of local events people identify with letters ( MBK, MAST, etc... ) I hear people actually say stuff like "Are you into SSC or RACK?" all the time at munches.

That being said, all of the subcultures I involve myself in tend to do this. Perfume lovers ( SOTD - scent of the day; FBW - full bottle worthy, and so on into infinity ), climate geeks ( let's have a fight over Koppen's Csb versus the Trewartha Do! ), and though it's been a while since I was involved, fanfiction ( subcultures/acronyms are my OTP ).

So you are into FFA or Fetish For Acronyms? Hey we could start a new FFA group on FL.

I don't know if we can even separate on-line versus real world anymore. They're one and the same.

We "oldheads" tend to see them as different, but that distinction is really a relict from our past.

When you look at the youth of today, they live their lives on-line. On-line IS real life to them. For example, I pay the cell phone bill for my nephew who is in his early 20's. His monthly phone transactions usually include about 8-10 phone calls, and 5,000+ text messages. Heck, I've even seen young people text one another when they're sitting in the same room....or even sitting at the same table.

That has absolutely nothing to do with acronyms, but I thought it was worth pointing out. [;)]

I agree.
I have heard Mast, TPE, M/s, D/s, SSC and RACK at munches.

ETA: The most unique one I have heard was when someone asked if I was an FL.
I had to ask what an FL was.
It stood for foot lover.

Ya, I guess it's just the crowd I roll with. We are still pretty much stuck with full words. (except that one military guy that likes to get out of line on occasion...)

No one talks by more, it's all text messages.

Bloody government started it.... DOD DOT DOL DHSS CRDC. Brits americans and canucks all do it....
I remember there used to be a game online back in the early days called acronphobia or something,
You would beo nline with a bunch of people and the computer would come up with three four five or six letters that you had to make stand for something... intelligible.
It was much fun in the adult rooms
eg, DOD would become daft old dames,
BBC would be , bowling ball cascade, or ball bobbing cats, or blue balls crushed... the results were hilarious.
MCAR became , My cats ass reeks.
WEG became Way Enormous gonads,
yeah I wasted a lot of time back then, now I just come to CM and LOL LMFAO< AND LMFAOROTFLPIMP! Say PMTA At all the BDSM ers and GMGO.
Sorry LaT:)

TenderTorment -> RE: Do you have a fetish for acronyms? (1/9/2013 1:06:02 PM)

Whilst not a BDSM acronym one that has stuck with me from the military is PPPPPP
Prior Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance
suppose you could apply that into any walk of life, I still use it occasionally in the workplace.

It's all good. I have to be honest, with all of the ASDF SFEWREF and GTEWAQW, I just skimmed right past it until the LaT part caught my eye.

I have to admit there is one I actually like........FUBAR. Just because it's so fun to say!
