Cleanup! (www.stephengould.org) damn nice job of cleaning temp files, cookies, and cache. Use once a day.

Comodo Internet Security. (antivirus, firewall) set the stealth ports wizard to outbound only

Every month or so, shut down your computer, your wireless router, and the router coming into your house for 5 minutes or so, and reboot from house to local to computer......big improvement.

ALL FREE.

Anyone else got any good stuff?

Avast.com Really good free antivirus.

Here's a wierd one. Occasionally, reverse your ethernet cable. Take the puter end and plug into your modem and vice versa. Evidently, sometimes a charge builds up at one end. This solves the prob.

Step one: get poise to help troubleshoot your pc.

Step two: watch in horror as your pc locks up like a nuns britches at a screening of Magic Mike.

Step three: toss that fried sumbitch in the scrap heap.

Step four: buy a new one.

*all of the above is true, but none was poise's fault :-) *

I use CC cleaner. removing traces of registry shit that gets left behind and can cause problems, removes unwanted programs reallly well, and backs up your registry so if you screw up you can ahem restore it. www.piriform.com
Also you can cancel stuff that automatically sets itself to start when you boot up windows.
I hate a slow computer and de frag regularly 3 times a year.
