ORIGINAL: Zonie63 I think there would be a difference between calling the cops over something illegal/violent and reporting a post for violating the Terms of Service. Violating TOS is not a crime; you can't get arrested for that. I suspect Awareness might believe calling the cops was beneath him if it really were a question of violence or threat, and so his stance against reporting posts here for being mean (by comparison, a far lesser "crime") is consistent with his ideas of right and wrong. You may disagree with that stance, but the position does make sense. Sure, I can understand the rationale, and in many many cases it really does make sense. My point is that there are times when it doesn't. quote:

I would think a forum like this is more analogous to walking into a store, restaurant, club, or any other privately-owned establishment. The owners or management can make their own rules and enforce them, as some places might have signs which read "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone." And I think these "accept the status quo or leave" arguments are analogous to telling Rosa Parks to leave or sit at the back of the free public library and have to await days for approval to check out books. Pam Again... despite my irritation at the level of (what is in my subjective opinion utterly pointless) whining, I can't disagree that there are issues, points of conscience or honour, or situations where speaking out is absolutely the right thing to do. But with a site like this it's not a binary "accept the status quo, or leave" situation. There is a middle way. You can accept the status quo (either because you've elected just to shut up, or because you don't have a problem) You can engage in a positive way to bring about the change that you think is needed. Or you can leave.... It is also just a little bit rich when people (and I'm not accusing you of this by any means) liken themselves to Rosa Parks who was taking a stand against racism when they're just pissed off with the decision that the owner of a website (or one of his / her agents) made about one of their posts.
