Status: offline 		I would agree but I also think passion is important in getting the measure of someone or the situation. When debating with passion one persons insult is another’s truth. And anyway when I argue at home, and this is with those I love, I have been known to use an insult. Sometimes it is needed to make a point…In my opinion anyway.

It would also be interesting to see a show of hands of folks who would admit to intentionally trying to derail a thread or have it locked.

I agree.. sometimes insulting someone you love cuts way too deep.. and what if its not warranted if its based on incorrect info? you damage a relationship that can never be repaired.. (speaking from my own personal experience, as my brother has insulted me based on an assumption he made that was wrong.. damage done now tho..)

I have never looked at it this way and I will have to think about it some more. My first thought is I'm not really sure what is against TOS except anything to do with children so I am not a judge with the knowledge required.

It seems most posts here besides the children and inappropriate pictures seems to be personal attacks and these I will most certainly not report. I figure it is up to the people involved to report if they feel it is necessary. I personally don't let people attack me simply by refusing to engage them when they go that route.

Maybe another part of this thread should be in all honesty how many have read TOS of this site from start to finish and feel they are qualified to know every infraction? I must admit i have not...and I'll bet I am in the vast majority.

I've never read the TOS, have no desire to because I don't put that much energy into this site. I wouldn't have a clue what the rules are. And if someone threatened my physical being I would just laugh and laugh and laugh because I find that extremely hilarious. lol Yeah, really, nothing on here bothers me enough to care to report something or to read the TOS. After all these years of being on here, I seem to be a damn fine job even not having read it.

Status: offline 		Yes. Since June 2011, I see that I made seven tickets. Some were to report necro threads of a year old, the rest were on personal attacks (none that were made toward me).

On the other side I report primary pix that are dick pix, and pix with kids, K9 "art work", any beastiality, and fluids other than blood (cum, scat, piss, etc.). Most of the time I only report it if it's there when I sign in, on my home page, but soetimes I've been bored enough to spend half an hour to two hours reporting pix and profiles.

I've never reported anything to the moderators, although I have put someone on hide before. But the trouble with putting someone on hide is that you can still see that they posted, even if you can't see the actual post. I wish there was a way of making the hide feature more effective, to the point where the whole poster disappears, along with all of their posts, and any posts which quote their posts.

Generally, it's not really my style to report people, unless I have reason to believe that someone could get seriously hurt in some way. That's definitely something the forum administrators would need to know - anything potentially violent, illegal, seriously harmful.

If others are just squabbling, then I wouldn't interfere. If someone calls me a nasty name, I usually try to ignore it and stick to the topic at hand. But there have been a few times where I might respond in kind. But that's where it gets a bit tricky, because even if you respond in kind to a person's insults, they might come back and complain about being insulted. Then the argument turns into who insulted whom while the insults are still flying back and forth. That's when we end up with variations of the "He started it" routine. It seems to be a recurring theme on every message board I've been on.

Some message boards have one section where people can flame and deride each other to no end - but they have to keep it confined to that section. On the rest of the board, they have to be nice. Have they ever tried that here?

One of our posters who was famous for just that in politics no longer posts there... thankfully.

I have. I've also read the forum guidelines and the Administrative Announcements (where the no blacklisting rule and others can be found). Would I be qualified to know everything? Even I'm not egotistical enough to say that I would be. Do I have a pretty good batting average? Yes.

Intentionally derail? No. I do My share of thread drift, etc, but I'm more a believer of conversation flow. I've never tried to get a thread locked or been the person that was the third in the 'three strikes and you're out' rule for P&R.

Another thing that I wanted to add about this is that a lot of the things that I've reported are from off prime hours. Spammers, for example, definitely hit during non peak hours in the USA because they are trying to be under the radar. Same goes for blacklisting and personal information (phone numbers) posts.

When Gamma came on board and I started getting more gold letters, I did read the relevant part of the TOS (Section 7) and Forum Guidelines. Like legalese everywhere, there is language included so that the site does not need to list every infraction. But except for one issue, everything for which I received a letter was covered somewhere on the site. I made some changes in my posting style and stopped getting tickets.

What's the big deal about getting one letter for one issue? You learn, adapt, move on. I imagine the problem is when people are notified about a problem, refuse to change their behavior, and get letter after letter.

They are not allowed to moderate on threads they have posted on. It is not uncommon for someone to im another and say, "I'm posting in this thread and it may be a volatile subject. Can you keep an eye out because Im out of service on this one." Actually, the best way is they sometimes put it in their im so other mods can see. Most of the time, in all actuality, they wind up posting very little under their regular nick, especially at first, because they are so involved with learning, and moderating, they have no time to, lol. Almost all will tell me when I tell them the rules for posting, and that to be careful not to let the job consume them,but to make sure they dont stop posting under themselves at first, they say they will continue to post and there will be no problems. Soon after, they realize they have not posted under their regular nick and have to make time for it till they get organized.

As to having them not post while they are moderating....while a valid question, in practicality. I ask those that moderate to do so based on their posting history, whether even keel, within TOS, ability to remain calm when they post personally even on trainwrecks, etc. This is a volunteer position, that is only taken (even though there are some on another thread that think otherwise) because of their love of the boards and/or other members. Why else would they remain nameless, see both wonderful and HORRENDOUS comments about them, constantly, based on perception of what is visible, that in truth may or may not have all the facts behind the scenes, or based on popular opinion at the time. To see at times, statements which are patently, verifiably untrue, or partially true but with negative conclusions drawn because of only partial knowledge, but not able to give statements of explanation? ( Wow, was THAT a run on sentence !!) The moderators on staff do not do it for any compensation whatsoever. Nor do they do it hoping one day to be compensated. The ones that are on staff now did not actually volunteer, I approached THEM. There are some new ones slated to be on board shortly, and you should be seeing them soon as moderators posting. I hope they stay on for a long time. THAT is the best way for consistency to be present, is long term staff, not only to establish routine, but to provide consistent answers to new moderators.

So theoretically , I would be asking someone to quit posting, for hopefully years, and only be staff that is not supposed to post anything on the boards without checking with me. ( I say supposed to, because sometimes , it has happened, at times, regularly.)The decision to quit posting was a personal one, and only because I am Alpha. If I was a moderator I would not want to quit posting. Hell, I dont even post on Fet as my regular user nick, because so many know it. I used to be a poster that toed the line on snark while not getting golden letters. I would not want my personal opinions to ever be construed as being the site/owners opinions, and I feel that since so many know who I am that might happen. I could not in good conscience ask the other moderators to stop posting. If they were in fact willing to, in perpetuity, I would have sincere reservations about proceeding further.

I seem to recall seeing a photo posted of an attractive woman sitting on the steps inside her home... Im wanting to say she was clothed, but not wearing panties, so all her glory was visible... the disturbing part was she was smoking a bong.

Why would I?
I don't waste time reading the posts of wingnut people who bother me. In fact, I generally tend to stay out of the crazier sections of CM(Ahem, clears throat, P&R)so I avoid lots of conflict right there.
Plus, fuck-this is the net...and you're all fake anyways-how can a buncha fictitious people making posts in the ether gonna get me irritated enough to whine like a bitch to the mods about em. I'd much rather lay into em myownbadself should things actually reach that point.
