I prefer civil and meaningful discourse and so report personal attacks and off topic hijacks on serious threads. I've reported threads that were in the wrong forums. I also pick up litter made by others and recycle.

I've done so myself, a few times.

And yes, I agree with you that it's an obligation. Just as I feel an obligation to try and respond to genuine questions and issues in a positive way.

I think most of the people complaining about moderation don't realize that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

If you are a member of an establishment and see room for improvement, are you not obligated to work toward that improvement?

MissImmortalPain -> RE: If you don't like it here then why don't you just fuck off? (1/13/2013 5:59:46 AM)

I come here for the crazy (yes, I mean you) and a few other people whose opinions I like to read. I don't think I can name them because I don't think we are allowed to do that but either way I find this place entertaining, for the most part, and when I can't handle it I just back off a bit and let things spin back around to normal. Don't let it bother you to much. People come and go, just like in the real world, and if you are lucky sooner or later whoever is annoying you leaves. :)

Yes, I think so. I take your point (and DaddySatry's too) on this.

And, this thread is one of the things I'm doing to work towards an improvement.

I think that the boards would be a lot better if all of the whining babies, who never actually have anything useful to contribute except for their incessant complaining all fucked off ;-)

That's not the only thing I'm doing though. I'm also trying to be less snarky (something I've no doubt I'll fail at from time to time), I'm trying not to "sail close to the wind" when it comes to disagreements with other posts (again... I shall fail at this from time to time) and I'm trying to make sure that I make at least a couple of really positive posts each week.

And sure, It would be silly to say people who have something productive to offer over and above being fucking cry-babies don't have a right to raise concerns, and do stuff that they believe will help the boards.

But you know.... sometimes I see someone repeatedly complaining about the moderation, and in some cases a returnee predicting that they'll soon be off again... and I can't help thinking... "Well of course you get moderated a lot... you come over as a total asshole some of the time".

If in addition to raising our valid concerns we asked ourselves a) "How is complaining going to help?" and b) is there something else I could do to make things better, I suspect there'd be far less nonsense. I'd go further and say, if a person is not prepared to ask him or herself those questions... well in my opinion (which I'm free to express), they can just fuck off.

And you can catch even more with manure.  Of course, I am unsure why we want to catch flies in the first place.

Really? Telling people to go fuck off is your idea of working towards improvement? While the discussion in this thread may drift in that direction (thanks to others) I have a tough time buying your methodology.

As I said - in the very next sentence - I think that the boards would be a lot better if all of the whining babies, who never actually have anything useful to contribute except for their incessant complaining all fucked off.

But it's ok, you don't need to buy my methodology, on account of it not actually being for sale.

<rolls eyes>

Yanno Aylee, would rather catch a good movie myself.

LadyPact -> RE: If you don't like it here then why don't you just fuck off? (1/13/2013 10:23:53 AM)

OK, this thread is funnier now that I went and looked at a couple of other threads. (Yeah, I read that bit about no longer using one name for the dating profile, and yes, that made this exchange funny.)

I'm willing to bet that you didn't read the whole 1100+ posts on the thread that inspired this one. (Who would at this point?) Believe it or not, there was some interesting stuff in there. I learned a few things. Also, some good conversation during the late hours for Me.

So, I'm sorry we see it differently. We'll just have to have different points of view.

crazyml -> RE: If you don't like it here then why don't you just fuck off? (1/13/2013 10:56:18 AM)

Oh I don't think we're all that far apart on this.

My objection isn't to people that have criticisms, it is to the people that only have criticisms.

jlf1961 -> RE: If you don't like it here then why don't you just fuck off? (1/13/2013 11:01:16 AM)

I have a few of criticisms :

1) Collarme does not sell clones of lucylastic.
2) the moderators will not give the winning megamillions numbers before the day of the drawing.
3) Moderator Chi has not given out the chocolate chip cookies or the steak and lobster dinners to the members.

Other than that, I really see nothing to complain about.

littlewonder -> RE: If you don't like it here then why don't you just fuck off? (1/13/2013 11:09:05 AM)

what's really funny is that a couple of days ago I did a search to see if there were posts from however far back the threads go on collarchat, that talked about the failure of this site, it's problems and the problems with moderators. Yup, there were quite a few from 2005 and on.

So those who said they missed the good old days because today's site just isn't the same....what isn't the same? Apparently it was the same "in the good old days". There was just as much complaining as now, just as many people coming and going, just as much lull at times as now.

Nothing has changed.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: If you don't like it here then why don't you just fuck off? (1/13/2013 11:30:01 AM)

~FR~

Complaining to a point is fine, but when it creates it's own negative impact on a place like this, then those pushing it need to back off some. It is all in the balance of things.

BTW Needles, hitting report does not cause a huge negative wave to ripple through the forums, much like the current righteous crusade about moderation.

While I do not agree with the OP literally, I do in spirit.

Negativity breeds negativity, it is a fact.

On a positive note, I started a discussion in General BDSM and it went great. No posts pulled that I saw, meaningful and intellectual discussion, and it was due to those involved. Just shows that how you post has a direct impact on what you get back in these forums.
