The Internet was developed and *PAID FOR with U.S. TAXPAYER DOLLARS!*
The Military developed it using OUR Taxdollars as a way for all Military Units to stay in touch.
It belongs to U.S. Taxpayers-PERIOD!
The "UN" and others have tried to weasel in on it but to no avail.
The INTERNET IS OWNED BY U.S. TAXPAYERS.
Anyone trying to steal it should be facing lawsuits and jail sentances!

Actually control of the Internet belongs to the US taxpayer.

I dont fear the UN, or another country taking control. [it wont, cant]

The larger fear is the corportization and mediacratization of the web. Such as what we now see on TV. Yikes.

The tax payer owns this. Not any corporation.

Haha!!! "the internet" cant be controlled, its a bunch of servers spread throughout the world, majority of the internet its servers and hubs are here in US.

Not quite.

The original idea for what was to become the internet came from a Rand Corporation study commissioned by the US Air Force in 1962 to study the feasability of a communications network that could keep the military's command and control structure in place after a nuclear attack so we would be able to launch an effective, coordinated counter-attack.

In 1968, BBN was contracted by ARPA to create a network for academic and scientific time-sharing, not to implement the C&C network the Air Force was interested in. The network that was created (ARPANET) connected universities, not military computers. MILNET, an offshoot of the technology created from the original ARPANET, didn't get spawned until 1984 (insert ominous music here.) At this point, who owns the internet is about as real as who owns the telephone, or telegraph.

It was developed in it's crudest form by DARPA in the US military. But it quickly and luckily got out of hand due to nonmilitaryily minded folks working for the military.
A whole bunch of things are invented and developed in the early stages with direct or indirect government help. Soon the good things break out of that and go running with free capital and free ideas.

The US no longer "owns" the internet. It wasn't really much of the internet when the groundwork was laid. Many Americans have contributed mightily to it. But it is now a concept and reality that should not be owned as a basic concept or property. It is now free to be prosperous and grow without bounds. The providers and inovators will prosper. To ensure that even the US users benifit the most from it, it should be unowned and regulated only to the point of keeping it's functionality. Such a wonderful form of communication must not be controlled by an individual country to affect all it's users.
Suppose China somehow owned it? Or that the US chose to censure/control it too heavily in some aspects?

Tax money and minds from all over the world make some wonderful things. Generally folks are rewarded rightfully for their contributions. But not with never ending profit and control. ( despite the patent and copyright law revisions ).

I should make a spot on the internet called the Dark hub. A spot with absolutely no censorship what so ever. A simple click yes or no if your over 18 to enter. and damn any one who lied. i,m not liable if they clicked yes. then no one would have an excuse to ask for my credit card number. And so what if its monitored by the goverment. It would be so dark their little minds would twist as they witnessed all their was to see. Of course only a few rules regarding age and consent. No child porn as usually. but beyond that free sites for all of the Dominant breed. and dateing sites that are real for once. A place add free. -Like that will happen- A place were the truelly deviant cant be taken advantage of. a black spot in the net sucking in lost souls. the server painted in jet black. with possible symbol on it. -aughs darkly-

Cause this sure isnt working. if one more spammer askes me if I want to know why their checking my bank acount information. grrr.

The US governs the bulk of what the USA decides is the control of the net. Each country...has a domain assigned. .US .CA .CN .UK to name a few. Those counties might impose stricter access.

Much of the existing law- caries over. If it is illegal offline- then it is illegal online. [in general]

This board only allows a link. Not a cut and paste of an article. Well- many links go dead fast. As it costs the person storing the info there cash. if i buy "pahunk.com" then I own that. But still I am subject to a miriad of rules/laws..... .coms are controlled by the USA.

Does anyone remember when we were told if ATT was split up we would save money? Well- look what happened... a huge amount of calls became toll calls... dubious fees imposed. In the end we paid more. -gee..how did that happen?

--then cell and VIOP came- blowing that out of the water. Landlines hardly are worth the cost now.

Phone companies know the data over wires- is the furure- not just voice over a wire. So they seek to control this- just as they did the break up of ma bell. Remember?

The kicker is.......we might be stuck forever on this one. Want DSL?- --it will be costly like Gas, Electric, Water, Sewer, and Cable. Pay up, or do with out.

Why should we trust them this time? I dont.

That is what is coming my friends.
