First, I hope this is the right place for this & anyways...

For those do-it-your-self-ers at large, who (like me) enjoy building your own equipment (crosses, horses, wracks, etc) when it comes to the design and blue-printing what do you usually do? Are there any books that you reference, sites or groups your apart of, retail blue-prints you stick to. Experiences (easy mistakes to make, re-purposed tools that make life so much easier...), recommendations, etc, discuss...

As for my part, I tend to rely on set images and use Visio a fair amount any more, in days past I used auto-cad & even paint. And once in a while I find my self making scaled mock-ups when attempting to make something "different" or new. As for my preferred medium, hardwoods. As for tools and designs, I will own up to the fact that I've never done anything particularly artistic or unique & have found my current tools to be more than enough to do the job.

I use pen and paper to workout the best way to
make whatever I'm trying to make, then do the
rest on the fly.

Having a good variety of power tools helps.

What are you making that requires computer
assisted technical drawings?...
Crosses, wracks and horses are all simplistic stuff.
Those are firmly in the realm of pen and paper
IMO.

I draw it up on a legal pad and alter as needed during construction.

Heck, that's how I did my office building remodel.

Honestly I've yet to build anything (for my self) that was so complicated that I need to use drafting tools, I just use the opportunity to scratch an itch as it were.

I actually found some wonderful blue prints for some wonderful dungeon equipment on foxyfurniture.com.

I like the equipment personally because it can be broken down and used for "vanilla" things when not being used as dungeon equipment.

ETA: The blue prints are easy to follow.
I am anything but wood working natural. Lol
