Yachtie -> By the numbers (1/18/2013 12:10:26 PM)

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 65% of American Adults think the purpose of the Second Amendment is to make sure that people are able to protect themselves from tyranny. Only 17% disagree, while another 18% are not sure. (emphasis added)

Just thought the majority here would enjoy knowing they're the minority.[:D]

jlf1961 -> RE: By the numbers (1/18/2013 12:11:49 PM)

The anti gun folks will only start screaming foul when the guns are all taken away and suddenly the constitution is declared null and void.

tazzygirl -> RE: By the numbers (1/18/2013 12:14:15 PM)

Bet they said that when the 13th as well.

mnottertail -> RE: By the numbers (1/18/2013 12:18:14 PM)

Rassmussen?  Useless.  What did Boortz or WND or Prison Planet say the number was?

With some 200 million firearms and growing I don't think there is much worry about tyranny, now paranoia that something to worry about.

*blinks* Honestly? You seriously don't think in the current climate that tyranny is a pressing problem? Dude, we have an entire class of people who are so far above the law that they laugh at it as they ignore it. We have a president who feels that indefinite, extra-judicial search and detainment are perfectly fine. We have a congress who thinks that torture is pretty nifty. We have a government that is investing more and more in both intelligence and counter-intelligence efforts against it's own citizenry. We are militarizing our police force at ever-increasing rates.... drones... armored personnel carriers... body armor.... chemical weapons....

Yeah... I'm a bit worried about tyranny.

If that`s true, then you can easily show us where the FF wrote in the 2nd Amendment(or Constitution or the DofI) about using firearms for protection from the nation they just formed....

Please.....which founder and what did they say?

The Whiskey Rebelion and later the Civil War pretty much blows the guts out of that theory.

And Rasmussen is John"not every American should be allowed to vote" Stossel`s outfit and not just huge liars but constistantly, huge liars. That`s the poll one sights when they`re right wingers and want to back up some right-wing bull shit.

By the numbers my ass!....lol

Every major poll, accept the liars ,has the NRA`s popularity plumiting.

Politesub53 -> RE: By the numbers (1/18/2013 4:11:12 PM)

1,000 people were asked in that poll, not exactly a huge percentage and easily skewed since Rassmusen was the source.

If Rassmusen is correct though, here is a link from the same page.

What was it again Yachtie.......oh yeah. [sm=lalala.gif]

considering the US population is around 250 million people, 1, 000 is really a small data base, candid like the polls that are taken to see which TV is most watched, and it is noted for being wrong.

Unfortunately (and I am sure god will punish me for this) I agree, 1000 people among a population of 250 million is a bit small and easily skewed.

To be honest, any sample of the population with less than a half million is easily skewed and can be biased.

Which is why I dont trust polls.

graceadieu -> RE: By the numbers (1/18/2013 10:22:41 PM)

While we're talking about gun-related polls, a recent ABC/WaPo poll showed that 65% of Americans support banning magazines that carry over 10 rounds. And the http://www.people-press.org/2012/12/20/after-newtown-modest-change-in-opinion-about-gun-control/ found that "(65%) think that allowing citizens to own assault weapons makes the country more dangerous", and a plurality of respondents felt that gun control was more important than gun rights.

graceadieu -> RE: By the numbers (1/18/2013 10:24:45 PM)

Also, believing that the Second Amendment protects us from tyranny and it actually doing so are different things. Even 200 million handguns wouldn't stop the US Air Force if they decided to blow up your militia compound.

assuming there was a compound to blow up

Got any idea of the sample size?

My younger sister works for a company that does polls, and she flat out told me that some polling companies actually look for samples to skew the results, unless they are told by the people wanting the poll they want an unbiased sampling.

I have seen recent polls for the assault weapon ban, opposed the ban, pro second amendment, anti second amendment so I really dont trust polls.

What is strange is there are international polling firms that basically have computers randomly pick numbers out of phone data bases from all states, but I only know of one group that contracted them for a poll, and that was in 83.

1774 July. (A Summary View of the Rights of British America) "The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time."[1]

1775 June 26-July 6. (Declaration of the Causes and Necessity for Taking Up Arms) "Our attachment to no nation upon earth should supplant our attachment to liberty."[2]

1787 Nov. 13. (to W. S. Smith) "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it's natural manure."[4]

A Little Rebellion Now and Then Is A Good Thing
A Letter From Thomas Jefferson To James Madison

Shays' Rebellion — a sometimes-violent uprising of farmers angry over conditions in Massachusetts in 1786 — prompted Thomas Jefferson to express the view that "a little rebellion now and then is a good thing" for America. Unlike other leaders of The Republic, Jefferson felt that the people had a right to express their grievances against the government, even if those grievances might take the form of violent action.

So how do you think they rebelled owner? Did they say oh you naughty naughty boys now just stop that or we are going to tell mom?

Of course its a modern world and all this stuff is just old junk anyway

Gee. You think?

Problem is that most civilian militia groups are dispersed, they have one chunk of property to train on, and yes a few have actual compounds, but should the shit go down the toilet, they would disperse in small groups. SOP.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: By the numbers (1/19/2013 1:04:00 AM)

Afghanistan did pretty well with their partisan militants against the soviets. Add in a few selective weapons with guerrilla tactics and yes you can fight back.
