The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 65% of American Adults think the purpose of the Second Amendment is to make sure that people are able to protect themselves from tyranny. Only 17% disagree, while another 18% are not sure. (emphasis added) Just thought the majority here would enjoy knowing they're the minority.[:D]

You seriously don't think in the current climate that tyranny is a pressing problem? Dude, we have an entire class of people who are so far above the law that they laugh at it as they ignore it. We have a president who feels that indefinite, extra-judicial search and detainment are perfectly fine. We have a congress who thinks that torture is pretty nifty. We have a government that is investing more and more in both intelligence and counter-intelligence efforts against it's own citizenry. We are militarizing our police force at ever-increasing rates.... drones... armored personnel carriers... body armor.... chemical weapons.... Yeah... I'm a bit worried about tyranny.

Please.....which founder and what did they say? The Whiskey Rebelion and later the Civil War pretty much blows the guts out of that theory. And Rasmussen is John"not every American should be allowed to vote" Stossel`s outfit and not just huge liars but constistantly, huge liars.That`s the poll one sights when they`re right wingers and want to back up some right-wing bull shit. Unfortunately (and I am sure god will punish me for this) I agree, 1000 people among a population of 250 million is a bit small and easily skewed. To be honest, any sample of the population with less than a half million is easily skewed and can be biased. Which is why I dont trust polls.

While we're talking about gun-related polls, a recent ABC/WaPo poll showed that 65% of Americans support banning magazines that carry over 10 rounds. And the http://www.people-press.org/2012/12/20/after-newtown-modest-change-in-opinion-about-gun-control/ found that "(65%) think that allowing citizens to own assault weapons makes the country more dangerous", and a plurality of respondents felt that gun control was more important than gun rights.

Also, believing that the Second Amendment protects us from tyranny and it actually doing so are different things. Even 200 million handguns wouldn't stop the US Air Force if they decided to blow up your militia compound.

Got any idea of the sample size? My younger sister works for a company that does polls, and she flat out told me that some polling companies actually look for samples to skew the results, unless they are told by the people wanting the poll they want an unbiased sampling. I have seen recent polls for the assault weapon ban, opposed the ban, pro second amendment, anti second amendment so I really dont trust polls. What is strange is there are international polling firms that basically have computers randomly pick numbers out of phone data bases from all states, but I only know of one group that contracted them for a poll, and that was in 83.

Problem is that most civilian militia groups are dispersed, they have one chunk of property to train on, and yes a few have actual compounds, but should the shit go down the toilet, they would disperse in small groups.
