I don’t understand this statement and every time I see people equating shaving with hygiene, I seriously have to wonder exactly what methods they use for personal cleansing.
There’s nothing inherently filthy about hair. It doesn’t grow out with germs on it. The hair on one’s ass is no different than the hair on one’s arm. And hair doesn’t become dirtier than flesh.
If something (like feces) is exposed to the hair, basic hygiene removes it from the hair just as well as it removes it from the skin.
It’s almost as if there’s a rumor going around that hairy people are dirty people. This simply isn’t true. One’s cleanliness is determined by their level of hygiene, not the length or location of their hair.
I seriously don’t care one way or another if people want to shave because they like the way it looks, or it makes access easier, or they enjoy the feel of smooth skin, or whatever,
but to say that shaving equals hygiene, is a bit of a backhanded insult to people that choose not to shave.
