Hey,

I just joined, I'm looking around to see who's out there and what's happening. Can't say I have much experience, but I have a friend to show me the ropes - literally!

Can I ask a question? I'm very picky about who I send a message to, I read their profile, look to see if they've posted on any forums, I try to respect what they don't want, and if it looks like we may have something to talk about, I'll write them a message. I know the accepted way of saying you're not interested is by ignoring - I really hate what the internet is doing to manners. You would think if someone took the time to compose a letter, the least you could do is say no... And I know this site is just full of guys who have a problem reading, and women get zillions of messages from guys who don't even come close to meeting the requirements. So how often should I expect to be ignored?

I expect a 5% - 10% reply rate from those I am messaging cold. Some other guy here stated that his response rate is more like 50%.

And as far as your complaint - get used to the Internet. You only invested 5 - 10 minutes. Much better than asking her out for dinner and spending 2 - 3 hours.

Roughly 90% of the time.

Welcome to the forums.

That's correct - you're learning two things:
1. Your definition of manners isn't shared by everyone else.
2. You don't get to control anyone else's actions until they consent to it.
But as Stephen said, a low positive response rate is normal. Best in your search and welcome.

EsotericLady -> RE: One from Arlington MA... (1/26/2013 11:03:12 PM)

I personally haven't take a poll to find about how many answer messages vs how many don't.

I also don't think it's what the Internet is doing to manners, but the excuse people are using for not practicing
their's.

Welcome to CM. : )

Expect always to be ignored, so then a response is always a pleasant surprise. [;)]

And welcome to CM. :)

If you take a look at my profile (ignore the not looking part for this exercise) and send me a sample first letter, I will be happy to critique it.

If I received a letter from you cold, most likely I would look at your profile and respond that I am only interested in people with around the same or more experience than I have.

I'm not interested in men who are switches, but I probably wouldn't go into that in my response. I'd tell you that the Boston area is full of kinky people, and suggest you join fetlife and start going to munches. I'd mention that NELA's Fetish Flea is happening over Valentine's Day weekend in Rhode Island and you should find the workshop schedule and plan to attend some educational events.

Good luck!
