that a professional company would do, or that you could easily replicate at home? yes, I know a wash, a wax a vacuuming, but what else?

I'm not quite sure why you're even thinking of stuff like this when you can't afford even to pay your bills right now. Imo, the only purchases of any sort, no matter how small you think it is, are those to pay off your bills and to keep you alive....healthcare, healthy foods, gas to get to work.

But if you can get away with it without having to buy anything and you have the supplies at home:

I'm thinking I would love to hand detail Daddy's car by myself as a surprise. And I could, depends on the steps recreate a professional detailing or as close to possible as I can at home.

Um, what you mentioned is a preamble to doing the careful, detail paint job that is the focus of a detailing.

Just clean and wax his car and forget about the paint, for a gift to him.

No human can do in their driveway what a professional detailer can do.

If you can swing it in your budget...pay for it.

These guys are worth their weight.

Steven, no detailing is the right word. Detailin might be a step before paint, but it also is a super detailed super picky clening,. Virtually no part of t+he car is untouched. You ever heard anyone say hey watchthe leather, I just had it detaile!!

ARIES83 -> RE: What are all the steps that go into detailing an auto inside and out? (1/25/2013 1:15:15 AM)

I think a google search would be the smartest
idea, there may even be a car detailing forum
where you would be able to get advice from a
community of trained and experienced car
detailers...

I'd bet my bottom dollar that's not necessary
though, as there are probably a lot of guides
and walkthroughs explaining everything you
would need to know about car detailing, and
all that is only a google search away.

Best of luck.

At least in NJ, "detailing" has nothing to do with paint.  It refers to meticulous, professional cleaning.  It typically involves interior cleaning, exterior wash and wax and cleaning tires and rims.  It can also involve interior shampooing, and power washing the engine.  No painting involved.

My thoughts exactly. This type of behavior and thinking explains a lot..

ArmorAll has products for almost every inch of the car, including leather seats.
Don't forget to use some for the dashboard and door panels.

Yes, it would if I was looking to go out and pay the 60, 80 or 90 or more dollars to have someone do it for me, but I am looking for info on how pro's do it to try to replicate it once again, FOR FREE AT HOME, WITH MY OWN TWO HANDS . MYSELF, FOR FREE.

.

So this "behavior" explains nothing except once again you're being an ass for the sake of being an ass because you enjoy saying things to make me look bad, or from some sense of superiority it gives you. Or what ever motivates you, because you sure can not resist or will not resist, saying snarky things in just about every thread I start, no matter what the topic.

If it was any one else every one would likely be applauding the generosity of the gf who wants to make her bf's car immaculately clean as a gift and a surprise

Even if you are doing the actual detailing yourself you still need to purchase products.

Here is a site that tells you how to do it. How to detail your car.

Not true, at least for me.
I would not want my partner to spend money on ANYTHING but necessities if money was tight or we were facing major debt.

And as I said in my response to you.
Even if you are doing it yourself you have to buy cleaning products to truly detail a car.

I'd say do the basics.
Vacuum, wash, and wipe the surfaces.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: What are all the steps that go into detailing an auto inside and out? (1/25/2013 11:03:03 AM)

I might be able to get the products for free depending on what they are, through freecycle. But even if not I could choose something closest to what we have at home.

Like one site said you need professional strength car wash solution, well maybe for the most optimal shine yes, but for your at home kicking around shine, no you don't. I would even forgo steps like for example washing down the engen block, if that was a step, I'm not qualified to do that nor will i buy supplies to do it.

When I cleaned my dad's car for a fathers day present and surprise we took it to a really cheap car wash, 9 dollars or something, then we touched up any missed spots with a hand squeegee that you wash windows with. Once we got it home we used our home vaccume, vacuumed the shit out of it, crannies, nooks crevices, seats everything.

Then we used some car cleaner my dad had and polished everything and then buffed with a soft cloth.

If I had, had a steam cleaner I would have steam cleaned his carpets, they're filthy.

Not for nothing, but really aside from the canned air, that list is all stuff most people have at home already.  I know I have some upolstry and carpet cleaner under my sink.  LOL, I think anyone with pets keeps some of that on hand just in case.

You can use the cleaning products on the steering wheel and other controls, but AVOID Armor All and similar conditioners on them (especially the brake pedal.) It makes them slippery for a while and your hands/ feet can slip off while you're driving.

As for the advice above, around here it's $100 to get a car professionally detailed and well worth it. If you prefer to do it yourself, you can get it looking quite nice with the products mentioned above (not as nice as a detailer can do it, but very nice.)

Exactly my point in the beginning. You are struggling to just pay your bills. How are you going to go out and pay for the products to clean the car? ArmourAll isn't cheap neither are other cleaning products. The cost of those could be going to pay off some of your credit card debt or phone bills or heat or whatever.

Which is why I said, unless you have all of this already at home, which I'm doubting, unless your dad has this stuff. Otherwise, vacuum and give it a good wash with soap and water and forget the rest until you pay off your stuff.
