I could even put my sweet and low strait into plain water, and just temper it till it's just right and no more, like LL suggested doing with what ever else I drink.

That would be drinking sugar water. IMO, gross. Easing up on your sweetener in your tea or crystal light is one thing, but simply adding that stuff to water is simply not right, lol.

As for the coffee creamers...were you suggesting putting them in water? That's kind of gross, too.

Look, I get it, you are really addicted to sugar and sweet drinks. All sugar and sweeteners will affect your blood sugar levels the same, I don't care what you are reading. Talk to your doctor about whether your insurance would cover a course on diabetes from your local Regional Diabetes Center. If I remember it is like a 4 week course. It can help you figure out how to properly eat with your diabetes complete with meal plans.

There simply isn't a short cut for cutting sugar out of your diet. Sure, you could go cold turkey, but there really isn't a need to do that, is there? So simply start reducing the amount of sugar in your iced tea, use less Crystal Light.

Oh, and since you will be using less Crystal light, instead of buying the single serve ones for your water bottles, but the ones that make a quart and spoon it in. It's cheaper.

Soda Stream makes a flavoring that gives just a hint of taste to water. It takes a maximum of 1/2 teaspoon in one litre of water. (I generally use less than that) They don't have sugar and list the flavorings as natural. You don't have to carbonate the water to use them.

They were $10 for three bottles in three flavors.

may i ask what is wrong with just plain ole water? it is boring i know... but it is so good for people to drink just water... without anything added to it.

i would avoid all artificial sweeteners. if it has to be sweetened i would suggest honey or maple syrup ( real not the aunt jamima fakey fake stuff )

and i love NuevaVida's suggestion of adding sliced fruit to a pitcher of water. we do this all summer long and it is so refreshing. cucumber lime is my favorite combo... but the possibilites are endless.

I was thinking about Soda stream for Daddy and changed my mind after I read page after page after page of negative reviews about how cheaply made it is, how nasty the flavors are, how quickly it broke, how the carbonation went flat , yada yada.. I'd also rather not buy yet another item to bring into our house, we got a shit ton of stuff as it is.

I do this all the time. I drink a little bit of milk for calcium and because I really love milk, and a hot glass of water with lemon first thing. Other than that though, all I drink all is just plain ole ice cold water. I bought one of those brita, bpa free, portable water bottles with a filter right in there. It works perfectly for me.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: I was hoping to flavor my waters by putting juice from juiced fruits into it. (1/27/2013 5:00:22 PM)

It sounds gross, but I got the idea because when you buy iced coffee at del taco or taco bell and then when it's just down to ice, i let the ice melt a bit, then I drink the watery remains that are in the bottom of my cup, i still find it tasty. But then it's actually coffee and creamer and milk an stuff not just creamer.

Well it's not so much as I am addicted, though I am, I want variety, and I want as much as possible in a healthy way as possible.

I revert back to bad habits when bored with the lack of variety.

You hit it flat on the head. It's boring. I want variety I want to feel like I am pampering myself or having a treat, or a reward. I do love plain cold water on some occasions, but on some occasions, I want to feel like I am having a treat.

I am willing to try the pitcher of spa day apple juice water she posted, I have plans to once we can go grocery shopping, and I'd try fruit in my water too, but I have to have my payday first. nobody has money right now for groceries.

That actually sounds nice for times I am cold and need to warm up, or feeling sad and depressed and need to self soothe. do you just drop in a slice of lemon, or squeeze it in or what?

You apparently missed the part where I said the My Water flavors could be used in still water. You don't need to own a Soda Stream to use them. And $10 is worth seeing if you like the My Water flavors.

And since I've used the My Water flavors I can vouch for the fact that they are one of the good flavoring products.

I was thinking of trying apples, pears, oranges, peaches, all fruits I love to eat.
If this would work how much of the juice from the fruit would I likely need?

When I stopped drinking soft drinks, I switched to water with lemon or lime.

I see that you are all about fresh, but you can buy bottles of lemon or lime juice, and they are super convenient.

The only bad thing in them are the sulphites used as a preservative... but all the other ingredients are what you would expect [water, juice concentrate, fruit oil].

I just keep one of each in the fridge and add it to any water that I drink. No running out of lemon/lime (a bottle lasts a very long time). No fruit going bad. No slicing. No juicing (and no clean-up).

Start with a couple of drops and add more to taste [you'll need more lemon than the lime, because the lime is much stronger tasting]... even one or two drops will make a difference to a glass of water. My tolerance has gotten pretty high for the sour flavor, so mine are usually stronger than most others would like...

I also do the fruit-juice-cut-with-water thing. Usually 1/4 juice, the rest water. If I'm craving sugar, I'll do up to 1/2 and 1/2.

I usually heat a cup of water in the microwave. I like mine incredibly hot. Then I slice a fresh lemon. I use one wedge. Squeeze it in and drink. It's very refreshing. Remove the seeds first! Then I just throw the wedge in the water. Like I would if I were drinking tea.

I love drinking Dragoneye tea, hot and iced. The scent is so refreshing I forget add sugar and it's very flavorful. http://tinyurl.com/b46s4tp

Thank you, my parents like those, and they do last a really long time, but every time I want to go use there's it's expired or bad. So I'd keep a supply of lemons or limes on hand, or get a very very small one!!!

Keep with the fresh as much as possible. The bottled stuff tastes nothing like the real stuff. I keep a small bottle around only if I'm making something and ooppss...forget I have no lemons.

when the ex was diagnosed with diabetes, we did a lot of research on alternative sweeteners.

"SweetLeaf" was the best that we found at the time. we could only find this product in health food stores, but i see it now in the the chain store Publix here in Florida. they also have flavored fruit drops to flavor water.

when i was living in southern cali, i found a stevia plant in a nursery. it was a beautiful plant that grew rapidly...well over 6 feet tall in a few months. i would make herbal sun tea with about 6 leaves to a gallon of tea and it was very tasty. from my research, it is supposedly difficult to get stevia to grow from seeds...this challenges me as a gardener and i am going to get some seeds and see if i can get them to grow in central Florida.

here's the site..very informative
