Status: offline 		As has been noted in other posts, I have a little HP notebook. I have been spending time and resources turning it into a nice swiss army knife. Have put old school games on it, music on it, ramped up its internet connection. put on good security etc

I recently upgraded the memory. followed proper uninstall procedures, but I am still finding remnants of old software that I don't want on this thing.

BEAR SHARE
LIME WIRE
and a host of other nastiness that the previous owner had on here.

Can anyone make any suggestion of a good free remover tool? Its tedious removing all of these remains by hand

Yes, CC Cleaner has a very user friendly one. I also use it to do one click cleanup of temp files etc.
Once you download and install, you will find the cleanup you are looking for in the Tools bar on the left
of the screen.

Being I'm not a computer tech and really have no desire to be...

Anyway, my computer keeps telling me I need the Adobe Flash Player. Well, I know it was on my computer, but I clicked to re install it anyway. However, my stupid computer is still telling me that I have to load it. WTF?!

Any ideas poise, you lovely computer genius?

I was thinking the same thing.

As for the adobe flashplayer. Yeah, there's been major problems with firefox and flashplayer ever since firefox had its new update. Go to adobe's site and download the new flashplayer. That seemed to work for me.

I've heard some people still have problems though and they had to disable flashplayer on their firefox.

As for me, I like CCleaner. I've used it with success time and again.

It sounds as though you downloaded the executable file to your computer, in which case you would have
to open it and click Run for it to install itself on your computer. Here is a great link that will show which version,
if any, you have on your computer, and steps to follow in the event you need to install.

There have been known issues with Java recently (for every browser), and some issues with Firefox and Flash,
depending on which combination of versions you have.

I knew it had been on my computer in the past, so I couldn't figure out where it went. On the re-install, I got the message it had installed properly.

Now I have Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome all installed. When IE acts up, I usually try Firefox. Now I am on Chrome and all worked fine. Go figure.

And yes, I know I should give up on IE, but I've just been using it for so long I guess old habits die hard. Plus I have that nifty little "e" in the task bar. I should move a fox and chrome down there to remind me of my options, lol.

I tried to use IE a couple days ago because I was trying to get a page to load and it said I had to use it with IE. I felt like I was back to basic barebones lol.

ugh... I am wary of anything google now.. i use it for searchs so of course ads that show up on anything else i look at are for stuff i searched for.. so that ticks me off majorly... I have been really put off by oh mighty greedy google (just as I am by eating-everything-in-its-path FB).. especially since google bought youtube.. I really hate using them even more..

I sorta switch between IE & Firefox but it takes getting used to something new, so I keep slipping back to IE..

If I must use an IE engine to load a page I use Slimbrowser: http://www.slimbrowser.net/en/
It is a stripped down version that loads less crap and runs faster.

For a Google search without all the Google tracking you can try Startpage: https://startpage.com/
They claim to use the Google search engine without recording your IP address.  It is part of Ixquick.

Foxit Reader is a VAST improvement over Adobe Reader, which is practically a virus in
the way it tries to take over your computer.  http://www.foxitsoftware.com/Secure_PDF_Reader/

For an uninstaller CCleaner is excellent.  Also I have found the free Glary utilities available at http://www.glarysoft.com/
to be excellent.

Yes, but even computer tech's get lazy at times.

How would you feel about trying to route out about a hundred or more registry entries by hand, when a typical registry might contain a oh say a hundred thousand plus entries. You have to go in by hand and make sure your deleting each one individually

Status: offline 		C Cleaner would remove those kinda things ... i got a "prtable version" of "Crap Cleaner" & it works like charm ..

PS: just to be clear on something .. after "Me & my friends tried Chrome for FB/Twittwer" we got a "Memory dump message after useing "only chrome for 45 minuts" on a 8 gb ram system ... only chrome people.... & the system restarts after that message.

Chrome is full of crab & the best deal is Firefox .... & the mother of them all is IE10 ...

Status: offline 		Revo Uninstaller. There is a free version that is just fine, or a pro version that is a 30 day trial.
GREAT program. I have even used it to remove stubborn viruses.

I would have assumed, being a computer tech, you would know a good program already. I guess I'm spoiled by my tech friends who I go to when I'm stuck on something with a computer and they can tell me in minutes, be it what is wrong or what program to use.
