May I ask how the submissives here feel about getting ownership brands/tattoos? Has anyone ever gotten one, and later come to regret it? What do you feel is an appropriate time-frame for getting your Master's mark? Anyone who has gotten such a mark, or hasn't, for whatever reason, could you please share your opinions/experiences?

My Master and I are contemplating an ownership tattoo for me, and the idea of it both excites me and makes me a bit nervous... I'd love to hear other's feelings..

I think it isnt the wisest course of action. simply because nothing is forever. a BDSM relationship, is a relationship.. and relationships do end.

and then you'll be stuck with the giant scar of someones name on your ass, and no way to explain it.

Here are three earlier threads on branding that you might find helpful:

I like the idea, but I haven't really ever seriously contemplated it. I guess the amount of time in the relationship would vary from person to person. I would say at least a year , for me, and I'm sure a lot of people would say even that is a little impetuous.

It's a reckless sort of a thing to do really, no matter how long you wait. Nobody ever believes a good relationship is going to end and as we all know many, unfortunately, do. I guess the question is, do you really want to have that experience and make that specific kind of committment? If so, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Take care :)

daisy,

i would definately let Mistress tattoo me. Even though we are fairly new to the lifestyle, we have been together for five years. i truly believe that we will always be together and if you don't feel that way i don't think it would be a wise thing to do. Seriously consider it before doing anything permanent to your body.

Actually, that was my reasoning for getting branded. I wanted a very real, very permanent reminder of how it felt, what I went through. I wanted something special that summed up all of the good times and all of the bad times, the triumphs and the terrors. I was not the same person when that relationship ended that I had been when it began, and having a visible scar helps to remind me of that fact. It is also a warning of sorts to anyone else that I play with, of where I have been, and thus where I am coming from, both as a submissive and as a dominant.

i have thought a lot about this actually...

i couldn't do branding (ouch) but i do want a tattoo when i find that "perfect Dom" who i want to spend my life with. I want something that means something for "us". i wouldn't do names because even so i would want it to last forever i do know all good things sometimes come to a end but a symbol of some type that holds a special meaning.

this slave feels very positive and honored to have a tattoo representing her relationship with Master. tattoos have a long history and mean different things in different cultures, so there are going to be those who will disagree about what or how or when or why it is done. to this slave, it is a representation of her position in our relationship, to serve our relationship by being His slave for His pleasure til' death do us part.

Has anyone ever gotten one, and later come to regret it?

this slave has had many friends with various tattoos and the biggest complaint seems to be the "impulsive" tattoos that one got on the spur of the moment, or by a friend at a party---so this slave thinks that one should research the desired pattern, style, placement, and MOST importantly, the artist's work and their methods and level of cleanliness.

when this slave was in her early twenties she wanted a rather sizeable tattoo of a scorpion purely for astrological reasons, as a representation of this slave's sun sign. this slave wanted it to be her design, however she had no skill as a tattoo artist and even if she did, wouldn't be able to reach the desired area for the tattoo!

this slave approached a tattooed friend and asked how long should one wait to be sure they won't think it stupid later? he said, one year. each year this slave would take out the sketch and see if it was still what she really wanted, and each year she would decide on some little nuance of the tattoo that had to change in order to feel comfortable with it.....
over the years it changed to a lizard morphing into an eagle with flames and after 10 years of changing it every year, this slave decided she liked it much better as an ongoing paper and pencil project than an ink and flesh tattoo!!!! (it has been almost 20 years now and still going!)

What do you feel is an appropriate time-frame for getting your Master's mark?

this slave thinks that it would depend on what sort of relationship one has with their Master. if u subscribe to temptation's opinion that your relationship is going to end and u would have to "explain" it to someone and would have no way of doing that, then perhaps u should forgo it. however, if u believe this is the man u will serve until one or both skids into the grave, then this slave would say: whenever Master decides to have it done.

this slave would not have the tattoo above her ass had it not been for Master wanting it there. He got a tattoo at the same time, on His shoulder, so it is something that we share, something He desired for us to have together. we each have a different design, but one would mean little to nothing without the other, they are a set.

hope this helps!!!!

ive had both branding and been tattoo'd and its something that as much a part of who i am as how i feel about the lifestyle .

windblownhalo -> RE: Inspired by windblownhalo's branding/marking post (11/11/2004 4:53:07 AM)

Hi,

At the time, i loved the idea of the branding. Its on my left shoulder blade. Visible to people if i wear a tank-top or bathing suit. i think i will stick to a tatoo the next time. But this is my personal experience. Like other scars its a reminder of what was.

Have a great day.

i agree with the matching tats but i wear the kanji for servant. this honours our relationship without any future reprecussions after my dismissal.
