I'd actually like to do this. Oh, what is the 'This' of which I speak?

To run and operate a BDSM Academy. Seriously, it seems Collarme has more creative whatever than other sites I've seen including B. com and F . Com

So, do these academy have standards for those who work as their Professors. What type of PHD do these trainers have to have?

Phd in Bull whip applications?
Or
Phd in Humiliation Psychosis?
Or
Phd in Torturing without injuring?

I am being snarky here and so take this with the humor I intended.

I don't know what B.com or F.com are but I'm
assuming they are some kind of bdsm academy...

I don't know what the idea behind them are but
I'm assuming that promoting safe play and helping
with information would be in the purview.

I think "bdsm credentials" are a funny concept but
I get that it's important for the people telling you
the do's and don't's to know their stuff.

Can someone give me a bit of an explanation of
what these places are and how they operate?
I'm horribly uninformed here...

There are no real BDSM academies that I'm aware of. I know there is a place that's calls itself an "academy" but really is just a place to indulge in a fantasy. (Arizona, I think)

I've only heard of the BDSM Academy that Oside spoke of.

There are classes and lectures that are held by people all the time though.
Which I think is a wonderful thing.

B.com has nothing to do with the "academies". They are just advertising that B.com uses to garner money.

The rest is what everyone else said. Just a way to indulge fantasies and there are real life demos, teaching, lectures, etc....in real life all over the place.

MTTA Academy

MTTA Academy is a program offered by MTTA, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit educational organization.

The Academy's goal is to help the participants find their heart and spirit through education and interaction. The programs are designed to give a real time experience of the Master/slave lifestyle by the incorporation of protocols and service aspects, along with the many classes of various topics. We strive to set an atmosphere that not only allows for the exploration of the Master/slave lifestyle, but one that promotes self exploration as well.

Both the slave training and the Master training programs are aimed at those who have little or no experience in BDSM and Master/slave relationships, those who are struggling to define their true feelings and identity as submissives or dominants, as well as those with some experience but who are interested in learning the "ropes" in a safe, and caring environment.

Throughout the weekend in all of the programs, sexual activity, or any sexual contact is not permitted by any participant, staff, or faculty member.

Over the course of the weekend, there are a number of BDSM workshops that provide opportunities to learn the basics of BDSM in a safe, sane, and consensual environment. Individual hands-on participation in the SM workshops is entirely voluntary.

The Training Weekend Program -- dedicated to the memory of Master Taíno's late slave tommy -- is a family event. Master Taíno is joined by his slaves as well as other members of his immediate and extended family that volunteer as faculty members or staff.

An excellent and experienced group of local Masters and slaves complete the faculty of the training program.

Proudly serving the Master/slave Community since 2001

Master Tanio had a profile here prior and has advertised M/s weekends at various times. Yes, he actually does call it an "academy".

I'm glad you called it snark, OP. I'd have definitely called it something else.

Hello all. My first post. Used to be on here many, many moons ago. The best answer as to BDSM training, I believe is BDSM conventions, of which there are many. Most every one I have attended have had significant classes in many topics from whipping 101 to knife play, etc.

FR

There is Kink Academy. I've gone to an event they put on in Boston as my first kink community event. Not sure if they're still around or just online now. I found them on FL.

Snarky or not, it's honestly not that bad of an idea. You could work out kinks (no pun intended) and parameters as you plan, but if you were to open a no-joke BDSM academy of sorts, possible gold mine. Or at least classes at colleges and universities.

I believe there was an article about an Ivy-League that was the first to recognize a BDSM-related club as official (Harvard? I'll check in a bit). So, hey. Maybe it's not too far off.

Honestly, I think most of the vet members of this site could easily qualify as professors. Oh! And we can have rope-tieing classes! Or, even better, a shibari class! I've always wanted to try that one out!

What BDSM Classes would you hold at a local college or University?
Would you suggest that there be a "degree" or "certificate" that you receive?

I personally think an Academy is a horrible idea because it would lead to thinking their way is the ONLY way or their definition is the only definition. Look how often the words, submissive and slave are debated over.

As many have already said there are places that hold regular demos, lectures and classes.

Examples:
The Crucible in DC

Holds monthly dungeon 101, which is an introduction for anyone who has never played publically.

They also are holding Demo on Hook Suspension on the 22nd.

I personally have gone to several fire play demos , cutting demo, flogging demo, and a caning demo when I was in California.

I would love to go to a needle play demo because it's something I am interested in learning.

The local BDSM group in California used to hold groups for newbies in the lifestyle where they discussed basic lifestyle terms, fetishes, ect.

Methinks there should be a BDSM certificate!

Yup, you take training (I'll gladly give it to all willing subs, for example!), and then you get a certificate, sort of like a slave registration or a SCUBA card.

Let's see, the categories ... oh ... the categories ...
- Certified Dom/Domme
- Certified sub/slave
- Certified masochist
- Certified sadist
- Certified blowjob expert (I'll even substitute myself in the training class as a prop)
- Certified cunnilingus expert
- Certified asshole
...

Let me explain.
I see it as a way to to explain BDSM to "Vanilla" people in a way that can be understood. This lifestyle is bizarre to some, taboo to others, and even illegal in some nations. Classes at colleges and universities could shed a drastically needed light on our world. There is nothing scary about our world and lifestyle, yet far too many, largely out of ignorance (not stupidity), find it frightening and appalling.

As to an "academy", I see an opportunity for pro-doms/dommes out there to have an honest-to-goodness certificate in the event such a thing is ever required, as well as just for s-words and grins ("I'm a certified pro-domme") lol. It would be kind of nifty to have. We all know you don't need some stupid certificate or diploma to be a part of this world. You either are or you aren't.

The academy I can bend on, but I am firm on college courses. I don't like our world being seen as "secret" or "hidden" as that implies "dark" and "sinister". There is nothing dark nor sinister here (and yes I am full aware many BDSM sites do not help by appearing dark and sinister). I don't know, I can be idealistic.

Technically, the Harvard College Munch is more of a club and a social space, rather than an actual academy. However, there was a Sex Week committee I was on there that held discussions, classes, and demonstrations last April. I hope they are continuing that tradition.

I'll go you one further. I find it sadly dysfunctional that we see sex as dark and sinister... something harmful to be avoided at all costs or, if necessary, shut into a dark room where nobody can see. So I tend to agree with you. I just think most kinksters would prefer to be "alternative" even with the price tags attached to that.

edited to add
Towards that end, I'd prefer that we just taught actual sex-ed in school. There's no need for BDSM classes in specific nor do I particularly want BDSM people teaching these courses since they are as infected by the "sex is bad" dogma as everyone else.
