punisher440 -> Things that bring back memories (1/30/2013 7:26:21 PM)

I happened across a pic earlier today of a car exactly like my first new car I bought as a senior in high school and it brought back so many memories.Good and bad memories, the joy and the pain of loves lost and gained.I just wondered what might trip other peoples memories when they see something in person or a photograph or even a smell or sound.

[this is what tripped mine earlier...and yes, mine was this color.couldn't get away with anything...lol]

Nice car, but my first car was a MOPAR....

Same model and color as this

The owner before my mom bought it was the Police Department vice squad. So instead of the 383, it had a 400 interceptor, four speed, high performance rear end.

I got it from mom on my 16th birthday, and immediately pulled the engine for an overhaul.

Bored out to 404, competition heads, headers, glass packs, and 4 inch pipes out the back.

Had the tranny rebuilt with all competition parts, and beefed up the rear end.

littlewonder -> RE: Things that bring back memories (1/30/2013 8:19:41 PM)

The smell of menthol cigarettes remind me of my husband.

Certain songs remind me of different people.

The smell of halupkis remind me of my mom. The color yellow and sunflowers also remind me of her because it was her favorite color and that color and sunflowers on the wallpaper and everything else in the kitchen drove me insane!

The smell of incense makes me laugh because it reminds me of my daughter when I would come home from work and she tried to use it to cover up the smell of cigarettes. [:D]

Men in suits remind me of Master because the first night I met him he was wearing a suit and looked mighty damned fine! [;)]

Eighties music reminds me of high school and the forensics team I was on and hanging out in the rafters of the auditorium and throwing lightbulbs down at the passing people and scaring the living shit outta them. [:D]

Eighties hair band music remind me of all the partying I did as a teenager and the night I spent at a friend's house where we both drank our own fifth of Southern Comfort. To this day I still cannot drink it! Oooohhh...bad, bad memory!

When I see a pontiac firebird it reminds me of one of my sisters and the boyfriend she had when we were kids. I remember that boyfriend specifically because when they broke up I helped her to tp his car and cover it in eggs. Yeaaahhhh....he wasn't too thrilled the next day when he came looking for my sister lol.

Oh there are just way too many things to name that remind me of stuff.

Thanks TDK

JLF,nice ride yourself.I sold that Formula Firebird to by a Mopar myself..a rallye red 1970 440+6 'Cuda with the 4:10 Dana, full manually shifted automatic and a nicely built motor.Still kicking myself for selling it too....[>:]

LW,you reminded me of something else..a certain smell, the smell of honeysuckle flowers. My first g/f wore a perfume that smelled like them and to this day that smell still gets my attention.

KMsAngel -> RE: Things that bring back memories (1/30/2013 11:39:39 PM)

paco rabanne pour homme cologne. intense memories of the early years of my late marriage :P
i don't know how i'd feel if another man i was interested in wore it as well....

ELP reminds me of the time i spent in italy - we had the album and played it a lot.

certain combination of spices reminds me of my grandparents' house.

the smell of lake water or even ocean water reminds me of their likeside place.

The sense of smell is profoundly evocative,I think something about where the neural transmitters interface with the brain. The classic example is Marcel Proust, who wrote a 9 volume set of memoirs of almost unrivalled complexity merely spurred by a memory that sprung up when he smelt a Madeline cake walking past a bakery.
Oh and Chanel No5-My dad back from Vietnam on RnR would bring it back duty-free for mum

My first car was a brown '78 Trans-Am, but it was one of the only ones I've seen that came from the factory without the bird on the hood.

not my pic, but my first "real" boyfriend had one, in the UK it was a big deal, and I could hear it coming blocks away, seeing it outside school or home would make me giddy as a schoolgirl(well I was). When I see them today, I get a hard on.
Paco Robanne aftershave still makes me weak in the knees, thanks to the same fella, love the smell even after his memories have faded
freesias remind me of my mom.
music, smells, too many to mention.

KMsAngel -> RE: Things that bring back memories (1/31/2013 5:08:08 AM)

mustang mach1?

Lucylastic -> RE: Things that bring back memories (1/31/2013 5:25:10 AM)

67 fastback, :) he got a mach one about two years after, and customized it , on his way back from his first car show(won an award) he totalled it swerving to miss a badger.

ResidentSadist -> RE: Things that bring back memories (1/31/2013 6:52:26 AM)

I bought my 1st car at age 14, a 1965 Valiant of the same color below. I got it a few months early in anticipation of getting a temp permit on my 15th birthday. Meanwhile, I got a ticket for driving it without a license. When I finally did get my permit, 30 days later a suspension notice came in the mail because of the prior. I loved that car.

needlesandpins -> RE: Things that bring back memories (1/31/2013 7:34:40 AM)

i have lots of things that take me back. it's usually music based though, but smells can do it too. these days it's patchouli. i can pick it out in colognes, or anything else that it's in. it reminds me of DrG and makes my body react.

my old dog was very attached to DrG and loved it when he was here. when it was time to have him pts he was going to be here to support me and the dog. unfortunately he couldn't get here so the night before i slept on his pillow which has the patchouli on it. the next day you could smell it in my hair and my dog kept sniffing it. while DrG couldn't be there in person i hoped that the smell on me would be something to my dog. it certainly was for me.

there is a womans perfume that if i catch a smell of it bring bad memories. i have no idea what it is called, but i know it immediately.

needles

Poison reminds me of an ubercunt, i once knew, yeah, makes me bitchy even now,

OsideGirl -> RE: Things that bring back memories (1/31/2013 9:32:16 AM)

My latest one: We went to an estate auction. They had a large amount of Jim Beam collectible decanters, including the 1968 Democrat Donkey and Republican Elephant in the circus costumes which is one of the items that was in my grandfather's glass collection.

I ended up buying them.

littlewonder -> RE: Things that bring back memories (1/31/2013 10:37:45 AM)

Oh yeah, circus glass. When I see especially the red fruit bowl and I see how much it's going for now as an antique, I go "damn! I wish my mom still had her's! It would be worth a fortune now!". She had one that sat on the kitchen table with the fake fruit with sequins and beads covering them.

TheLilSquaw -> RE: Things that bring back memories (1/31/2013 11:34:52 AM)

I have a few things.

I really do not like catfish, the smell is not appealing to me.
However, I do buy it and eat it.
Mainly because it reminds me of when my grandfather was alive and I cooked him catfish, okra, and cornbread every Saturday for the last 2.5 years of his life.

I love ice cream and frozen oreos when it is raining.
Growing up my uncle and I used to pull the couch in front of the fire place when it rained, eat out of the ice cream containers using frozen oreos as spoons.

thishereboi -> RE: Things that bring back memories (1/31/2013 11:41:52 AM)

My first car was a 1964 rambler, sky blue with a bright yellow happy face on the roof. My sister painted it for graduation when it was hers and that part never washed off. But I loved it and it was free.

As to memories, mostly songs bring them back.
