LadyPact -> In progress (2/1/2013 6:33:21 AM)

I started this out as a roll call thread. However, I am typing out so much about the dungeon we have in progress that I'm going to make it a topic all on it's own.

The big news here is that the dungeon is coming along beautifully. Please remember that we started with an unfinished basement. We now have five, fully functional play stations.

Our support beams were just the right distance apart to run chains from ceiling to floor for a (bottom/sub) standing, arms stretched out play spot. A great set up for those 6 ft plus men.

A St Andrews cross that used to be (believe it or not) a flower bed. The transformation that clip did to this thing is spectacular. The wood has been filled, sanded, and varnished to a thing of beauty.

A spanking bench. Can be used for simple impact play or electrical play.

A massage table. Works for erotic massage, needles, medical, etc.

A table for fire and/or wax.

We also have a little's "quiet corner" and an aftercare/observation area. (I still need some chairs, etc for that part.) For those who don't really want to see others at play, we have a social area off to the side.

The cement floor now has carpeting. We stuck with just carpet padding for under the table where fire/open flame can be used. It still keeps the feet warm, which was a concern.

A pet peeve of Mine about some play spaces is a lack of anywhere to lay toys out for while playing. We have corrected that issue. We have put up boards that have been turned into racks for toys that have a loop on the handle. We also have two old end tables and a coffee table for those who brought their toys in a bag and want to set them up before play for their convenience. We are also putting in a place to hang those items that folks use to warm up after play or for being naked on the floor. I've heard so many submissives over the years that they have no where to keep their blanket/throw clean until it's time to use it. Well, we solved that problem, too.

Being his ever resourceful self, clip hit the thrift store and found some princess lace curtains that will be used for the area around the massage table so those who don't like seeing erotic massage or needle play don't have to see it. The other set will hang between the walk way entrance to separate the social area from the aftercare area. Predictable, but we're dying them black.

Most of the walls are just grey cement. There are a few places that (I can't imagine why) it's just unfinished drywall/board. We got some ridiculously cheap paint to fix that. Blue for the wall between the cross and the bench where a rack was put up to hang toys. Green for the little's corner. Red for one wall of the social area. The paint will be done this week.

Our cost on the project so far? Roughly a hundred bucks. I swear, I don't know how he does it but the carpet was free, the wood was free, the massage table free in exchange for some labor. We have paid full price for the hardware (chains, eyebolts, etc) and the supplies necessary to make the wood nice. Everything else has been thrift shop creativity. I do expect to spend a bit more before I am done. I want a mini fridge for the aftercare area, one folding table for snacks, and a few folding chairs.

OK, so why did I create this thread? Part of it, I admit, I am just so happy about what has been accomplished. (Don't worry, clip has received sixteen tons of praise.) The other part is, I want people to really see what can happen with some space and some imagination. Yes! You can do these things. It doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg. Sure, you'll put in some labor but isn't something you want worth working for?

LP, that sounds so amazing. Kudos to you and your clip for embarking on such a cool endeavor!

WOW! Thanks for the description -- it is inspiring that so much can be done so well for so little cost. I have one question, though:

Is that for people waiting their turn? That's the only reason that I can think of for entering a dungeon in the first place if you don't like to see play.

That does sound awesome. When we were in the house in Memphis, we converted the attic into the dungeon. Worked perfectly. The house was an old style carpenter bungalow so the attic was just like another room, only huge! Gosh I miss that house. So when we look for another, it will have to have that space. But you're right it was very cheap to convert. Glad your spot is looking good!!

Hello. One mention first. Anytime I write a thread, please feel free to ask questions. (The respectful kind, of course, but I don't think that would be an issue with you.)

Sometimes people do have to wait for equipment depending on the number of people you have at a play party in relation to how many play stations that you have. Some folks just like to socialize and be around other kinky people, but aren't into public play for themselves. Also, you have to remember that certain scenes involve things that people may not be comfortable with. A violet wand for some is pretty to watch. For somebody who is scared of electricity, that might not be something they want to see. Same goes for things like needles or cuttings. When the particular type of scene that they aren't comfortable watching is over, they may want to see the floggings and the rope bondage that other people are probably doing.

On another note, I find that it's a good idea to have a social area that is a bit separate from where aftercare is being done. If nothing else, people are less likely to bump into tables where snacks are available if they aren't still in space. [;)]

Yes, I'm double posting on My own thread. Sue Me.

The three of us were in the city today and we scored again! At the thrift shop, we found a dining room table and six chairs. Even at thrift prices, this was a bit higher. Picked it all up for under a hundred bucks. The chairs are in great shape. The table needs some work. (Somebody obviously had kids.) We still have the supplies from fixing up the wood for the cross, so we're all set there. Just need the elbow grease.

Also acquired today, more lace to hide some pipes. (It is a basement, after all.) A bucket of primer paint because those walls are just going to soak up the first couple of coats. A few incidentals like waste baskets, etc.

MP says we have a real future in designing dungeon spaces in private homes.

Should you happen to have the opportunity to visit yours up this way, we're just a piece down the road.

MDA, we're hanging pieces of lace to cover certain pipes now. I'm going to have clip answer the question about converting the flower bed.

LPslittleclip -> RE: In progress (2/2/2013 1:31:32 PM)

the place hada old surface flower bed 4x8 ft just screwed together. the wood had to be sanded down and then cut down to get the angle i placed them on the floor and using a steel square along the wall to get a straight line. for thecut out i did not have a dado set so i used a skill saw to make several passes and a hammer to knock the remainder of the wood and a wood chisel to make it smooth. i drilled 6 holes and placed the carriage bolts (those have a smoth top to them) i used wood putty to fill holes and cracks in the wood then a dark wood stain to get a nice color. then 3 coats of polyurathane sanding between each coat with progressively finer grit till the last coat had a 440 grit. the hardware on the base the 2 4ft sections had corner brackes on them to hold them together and the chain was somthing simillar i saw use before in that case it was just short sections on top and bottom. i used turnbuckles to make the chain tight. right now it is just tied back to the wall , eventualy i will get some wood to make it able to be freestanding cross.
i hope this helps

Wow, sounds like lotsa work but worth it! Having a hard time visualizing it, looking forward to the pictures. Thanks!

LadyPact -> RE: In progress (2/2/2013 7:15:11 PM)

Believe it or not, that was the piece that got the ball rolling. I wish we had taken a picture of it when it was just a flower bed so we could have some before and after pics. I would have never dreamed that wood could be transformed into such a beautiful thing.

Yes, he does work his ass off. Make Mistress happy? How fast would you like it done, Mistress?

We do have some progression pictures on fet. The last six that I have uploaded are of the work that is being done. Same name there as here.

Please be advised. If you are adverse to needle pics, you may not want to continue looking to those shots where you can see bright ribbon. There are pointy things there, so please view accordingly.

The dungeon sounds wonderful!

MaamJay -> RE: In progress (2/3/2013 12:40:24 AM)

Firstly, don't faint, I have crawled out of the morass of My PhD having handed the damned thing in! I've not been here forever and have missed it.

Secondly, how cool to see one of My favourite Mistress's still posting and such a great thread. The Dungeon sounds magnificent LP and clip seems to have done an amazing job. You have thought of many of the little extras that make such a difference to play spaces, particularly somewhere to put your toys and your blanket/clothes. And a separate social area is great, then people can chat without disturbing the play. When we had a Dungeon (seems like eons ago now!), our only problem was keeping people wanting to just watch out of the aftercare seating ... good luck with that!

Best wishes for your playtimes in such a great space!

I would so love that. I'm thinking if I don't make it this year I'm going to try and make it next year. I've never been to Alaska.....yet.
