I was surprised that items that most people consider just sex were on that list.

I remember back in Allentown, PA when I lived there, a man was nude sunbathing in his back yard which was surrounded by a wooden fence. Apparently his neighbor I guess could see him though and complained to the police. He ended up on the sex offender list according to the news report. Last I heard he was fighting it in court. I have no idea what happened after that.

Damn, they pulled the other post, so now I have to type it up again. Sex offender is a legal term, pedophile is psychological. The legal term "sex offender" is given to all those convicted of any number of various sex acts, i.e. rape, molestation, sex with a minor, public nudity, lewdness and pedophiles. All under the umbrella of the term sex offender. So while all pedophiles are sex offenders, not all sex offenders are pedophiles. Just an aside to that, statutory rape falls under that umbrella and depending on your state, it could apply to an 18 year old who had consensual sex with his 16 year old girlfriend. If you look at the sex offender registry for your state, it tells you basics of the charge, i.e. statutory rape with someone under 18, sexual acts with someone under 11, etc. The only reason I mention this is because Florida's statutory rape law is completely inappropriate. It plainly states that if the girl lied to you, even showing you a fake ID (or I guess could be a guy), then you can and will be convicted. Other states, like NJ where I live, has a "5 year window" so if a 20 year old is dating a 16 year old, statutory rape will not apply if the act was consensual.

And putting your record at risk for a few moments of passion hardly seems worth it. Don't get me wrong, I have given a handy/blowie to my Daddy in the car, but we were both aware of the risks and did it anyway. That can be exciting, but it's hella stupid. We have a bed, we have money for a hotel room...makes more sense to do it behind closed doors when you're responsible adults.

When I was in college, we had a pedophile that attended group and he did everything he could to make sure he did not cross that line. He cut himself off from his family, worked in a job that had no contact with children, lived in an adult only community and did his shopping at 3am. There are some pedophiles that will not become criminals.

Well, I was speaking only of those who acted, but yes, those who never act aren't sex offenders, although I would still consider them dangerous.

Regarding the incident in question (at least the one that I'm talking about), the accuser was on the defendant's property. I'd have a tough time finding it before I can think of a really good keyword for search but the one that was in My head was a really good discussion down in Politics and Religion. I think it was a couple of years ago, but there were some weird complications over the guy being in the buff in his own house.
