Sure, I feel a little foolish thinking the site needs java support, but if it magically allows other users on, I don't mind being foolish.

First rule of computer support: Computers make no freaking sense! So even if the site was completely Java-free, that doesn't mean that upgrading Java and good site access are merely coincidental circumstances. They may very well be inextricably linked despite all logic pointing to the contrary.
