Hillary has a new website up,a bare bones site that does nothing to quell the rumors of a 2016 run...Christy makes light(pun intended) of his weight issue on Letterman. All things being equal (and we know they aren't) which issue carries more ......heft(for lack of a better word....lol) with you where Presidential politics are concerned. I'm not looking for a partisan argument here,just asking for a discussion ...Hillary will be 69 in 2016,Christy's weight is anyone's guess but is certainly a concern. Would you,as a voter,be more concerned by advancing age....or expanding waistline ?

Neither, really. Whoever can do a better job would get my vote. While I am not a Republican, I like Christy. I like that the man can poke fun at himself and be a good sport. He is not standoffish. I could see myself having a cigar and burgers with him. Hillary has her charms as well, including much experience. Sure she will be in her 70's, but she's not in failing health. My only real concern with Hillary is her extremely politicized answers when concerning foreign policy, but that may just be a CYA maneuver which is in no way unique to just politics.

At the moment HRC is in much better health, at least on publicly available data, than McCain was when he ran, who was 72 back in 2008. If her health declines then it would be a concern. As to Christy, I'm betting he sheds significant weight before declaring a national campaign but if he doesn't I'd base my concern about his health on what health records he releases. Overweight does not always mean grossly unhealthy.

I like Christy for showing he can get in the middle, at times, and that he is willing to tell off the right-wing hacks.

Overweight does not always mean grossly unhealthy. No, but it does indicate an essential lack of personal discipline. There's no reason people cannot, if they put in the right effort and avail themselves of the proper support, education effectively and sustainably manage their weight.

Well that's just 3 years younger than McCain was when he ran and I heard a lot of people saying he was too old to run, so I am sure they will be against this also. [8D]

I don't know that either would concern me all that much, to be honest. If I had to say one would concern me more than the other, it would be Clinton's age. Again, not that I'm terribly concerned, I voted for McCain in '08. There's a track record of decent presidents with both situations. Reagan was older than Clinton will be when he was serving as President, and he did at least a decent job. Likewise, Taft was a...portly...figure, and he was a decent President (and a better Chief Justice).

I think that if we get a Clinton vs Christy election, it will be the first time in 20 years we've had TWO good, well qualified candidates. I also feel that the powers that be in the GOP will do everything they can to hurt Christy. Hell, they'll probably fight against him more than against Hillary.

I am not surprised at all that Hillary will be running for President in the next Presidential election. I think she had that dream since her hubby left office. As for worrying more about advancing age vs an expanding waistline... both of them are eventual death sentences. So my concerns would have equal weight. Well, everything is an "eventual death sentence" because none of us are immortal. I think people will use Hillary Clinton's age because they don't want to admit their concern that she is a woman. Right or wrong, like it or not, her gender will be an issue for a lot of people. I live in NJ, and we have our share of Christy jokes (more than the rest of the country I suspect), but even though I tend to not go for the republicans, he has definately done some good by not being afraid to say what is on his mind and not spouting the party line. He earned quite a bit of "cred" after Sandy hit for a lot of people in my opinion. As Hill says, we would have two very qualified candidates, and I don't know who I would side with. I'm female and from NJ, lol. I honestly believe the best ticket would be if they ran together as a team, although I don't know who I would say should be the VP.

Would Shavonda Sumter make a better President than Edna Brown (most likely, and I only know about one of 'em), or Jennifer Carroll? All 3 are black females currently in politics. All 3 are from different areas of the US, and one is GOP while the other two are Democrats. If you agree with Hillary's policies and political beliefs more than with Christie's, then vote that way. If age is a concern, take the VP into account, too, because he/she will take over in the event that Hillary wouldn't be able to serve her full term.

In an odd turnaround, the Dems are looking like an organized, coherent, united party compared to the GOP. Bush didn't anoint a successor and the GOP has been struggling to find leadership since. Any candidate, Christie or nonChristie, will have to run a nasty gauntlet to get the nom. That said, Christie has more stature than any of the alternatives. If he can just keep his temper. But I agree that him vs Clinton will be a tough one. It'll be nice to vote for a candidate solely due to his/her merits, secure that if the other one wins, it won;t be that bad.

Depending on how his temper manifests, it might help him be more "familiar" to John and Jane Q. Public.

I agree with you that policies matter. As will the political climate in 2016. However, there is something to be said for the impact of history: the first black president followed by the first female president ... . the first Jewish president . . . the first muslim president. [8D] I also think waaaay too much is being played up as the importance of "The First (name the criterion) (name the position) Ever." Should have gotten Condi Rice elected and gotten two out of the way. Now, I'm not saying that electing a black person to the Presidency wasn't an important milestone, but hitting a milestone for the sake of hitting a milestone is absolutely stupid. I think that was the biggest failure of selecting Palin as VP. It felt like she was more of a "First Female VP" (and potential First Female President) milestone rather than a solid choice for VP. If Hillary runs, she's damn near a shoe-in simply because she is a woman, and for name recognition. Add into it that she has shloads of experience (regardless of how you rate it), and it will probably be almost impossible for her to not be elected. If she runs, I don't see Christie throwing his hat in the ring for the R's. It would probably be more damaging for his future Presidential prospects than anything. I can see the GOP countering with a female candidate, a "minority" candidate, both, or a ticket pairing as many "Firsts" as possible. And, once again, I'll either hold my nose and vote not Hillary, or choose some other Party Candidate. I take that back. I'll vote for the best candidate, regardless. I'm done voting "against" people. I want to actually vote "for" someone.
