Ever have the online experience of talking to someone, only to find out it's someone you already know?

It could be a previous online acquaintance, but I'm really talking about someone you know in real life. Yes, "real" life.

It's a funny feeling, not unlike deja vu.

Thoughts? Similar experiences?

I have, and it varies from creepy (OH NO, how do I get out of this?) to funny (AH...I KNEW you were submissive!). The weirdest? Several years ago (and several partnerships ago), in reply to a post on another system, I received a very nice, very sexy note from a newbie submissive guy seeking the attention of a Dom couple. Very detailed, imaginative writing. Read the note. Looked at the picture. Realized it was one of my employees. *GULP* Wayyyy too much information.

That doesn't sound like deja vu- just an odd meeting and connection.

But I've had "deja vu experiences" frequently since I was 11- occasionally several times a day and long ago stopped believing in "coincidences" (which is just a word meaning things happened together and we have no idea what it means/doesn't mean anything)

Many years ago when my wife and I lived in Florida we often attended a local gathering at a dungeon. We would see many people there and became good aquaintances with many. There was a young couple who were rather quiet, they would come in and play together and then leave. While they were friendly and smiled and said hello to everyone they did not go out of their way to become known to others that well.
One night when looking at a personals website I noticed an ad for a couple that was in the Orlando area so I wrote a note saying that we would be interested in meeting. The next day I recieved a note saying that they would be interested as well and they sent their messenger ID so we could chat. That evening I saw that they were online so we started to chat, after a while of chatting we realized that we all attended the same parties and knew many of the same people. I asked if they had a picture to share and that I would send them ours, when I opened the picture it was of the quiet couple who always were so reserved at the dungeon. We ended up having a two year relationship with them that was a lot of fun adn good times

I am conversant with the definition. I said it was a feeling akin to deja vu. That wasn't the point of the post.

yes! the same guys that were in valley trader ads...are not online. some worn out merchandise...with pics 10 years old too.

I have seen that as well.

Of course, in some peoples' eyes, I am also likely to be worn out merchandise. Maybe I should use a ten-year-old pic (but for God sakes, not a pic of me at 10!!!).

There's someone on this site who I went to elementary school with. When I wrote him, I just thought he was my age and grew up in the same general area as me. But, as we were chatting, we put it together. I think his reaction was, "But you were always so quiet and normal!" Ha.

It was definitely an "oh shit" moment for me, but it's all cool now and it's fun reminiscing with him.

Yep.. I ran into a former co worker on a yahoo bbw group. I had no idea he had that interest. When I saw his picture I had a blast playing with him until I told him who I was. We ended up having lunch.

When I was eighteen I met this guy that I'd been talking to for quite some time online. He was nice and we'd exchanged pictures, but what never dawned on either of us was that he was in my Army Reserve unit (not the same MOS, but still supply company, in the building next door), and that he was a friend of my ex who was in the same company. It made for an awkward evening.

Edited to add: Oh, yes, and there was the interesting incident of the guy on this site claiming to be from Columbus, Ohio who would post the most thread-bumpingly inane shit, who was actually from right here in Lafayette, Indiana ... and I'd made the mistake of dating him about a year before. Stupid boy put his real pic up and everything, with all his fake information. He left pretty quickly after I got here.

The last three posts illustrate best what I was trying to elicit.

Isn't it interesting how they all turned out?

I've lived in so very many places that I have friends, acquaintances, relatives and clients all over. Every once in a blue moon I discover something about them out of context, because they leap out of the category of "friend", for example, and become something new and different.

I wondered if others found the idea of such a context-shift at all titillating when the context shifted to was here...
