He QUIT rather than sell his soul to the Devil.

Can you say you would do the same?

The man is a complete idiot. As for God taking care of them, good luck with that. I am a Christian but our union or God never signed one of my paychecks. AT&T signed them all.

I kind of sympathise. All throughout my uni final exams I was allotted desk No 13. Bastards! At first I'd throw the No 13 label on the floor, but it was always picked up and placed on the desk in front of my nose again by a helpful invigilator. Then I brought in a pencil and changed the 3 into an 8.

I had the last laugh. I'm still alive and my pestilential soul is yet at large on this Earth. Hah!

I wonder if this guy is feels the same about 333, the sign of the little devil.[:D]

Silly as it may seem, I do sympathize. If he is that willing to take a stand for his beliefs, there is something to admired and respected.

“God is worth more than money,” he said.

This is from his former employer -
quote:

LaCourciere, the spokesman for Slonopas’ former employer, said the firm planned to mail out a new W-2, in a plain envelope, by the end of the day on Tuesday. The company also wants to rehire him.

“We’d love to have him back,” he said.

So he was a good employee, too.

I lived on the 13th floor of my University Dormitory. If you're the religious sort, you can accept 13 because it is the sum of Christ + His Disciples. [:D]

I'm not superstitious because it's bad luck.

Or even 68.........blow me and I'll owe you one.

hlen5 -> RE: THIS MAN knows how to stand up for what he believes. (2/7/2013 7:43:14 AM)

I wouldn't quit my job over such a thing.

On the other hand when I moved to the town I live in now, they tried to give me 666 for my post office box number. I asked for a different one.

FR
I can't help but have respect for the guy and his
wife to. They're walking the walk not just talking
the talk. It sounds as though he was a good worker to.

I try to avoid superstitious or magical thinking but I
admit don't want PO Box 666 either.

cordeliasub -> RE: THIS MAN knows how to stand up for what he believes. (2/7/2013 7:56:58 AM)

It always made me laugh when hotels skipped 13 on the floor numbers. It was always fun to point out that it just means that 14 is really 13 and watch people's faces fall......

I don't know...quitting over a number seems more....weird than admirable to me.

Winterapple -> RE: THIS MAN knows how to stand up for what he believes. (2/7/2013 8:48:48 AM)

I can respect weirdness.[;)]. I have a soft spot for
eccentrics and nonconformists in general and the only
people that might suffer from this are the man and his wife.

There were times when the 13th floor was simply a service floor, like another storage floor, or a floor where janitorial and maintenance items could be staged for upper floors.

muhly22222 -> RE: THIS MAN knows how to stand up for what he believes. (2/7/2013 10:01:26 AM)

I once stayed in Room 1313...on Halloween night. If I'd needed to, I was going through the window (there was a roof one story down).

As far as the OP...I suppose I can respect a person who takes his beliefs so seriously that he'd rather quit than end up with "the mark of the beast." On the other hand, it's hard for me to respect somebody who doesn't appear capable of recognizing a pure coincidence.

mnottertail -> RE: THIS MAN knows how to stand up for what he believes. (2/7/2013 10:04:25 AM)

I imagine USC 13 chap 13 and the 13th amendment causes you all sorts of fits at work.

So, you prolly dont litigate census and slavery.

EsotericLady -> RE: THIS MAN knows how to stand up for what he believes. (2/7/2013 10:38:25 AM)

(Chortling) Now where is jlf to give us the in-depth, actual and true, detailed history of these superstitions complete with guns used and the connection to the amendments?

LafayetteLady -> RE: THIS MAN knows how to stand up for what he believes. (2/7/2013 11:05:26 AM)

It is a very weird coincidence, but nothing more than that. He may claim to be a born again, but he is bordering on zealot and really lacks full understanding of the passage.

I'm born again, and when I hear people say "God will provide," it always makes me cringe. "God helps those who help themselves" is not part of the bible exactly, however there are other passages that pretty much mean just that. So essentially, God is looking at this couple and saying, "I provided you with a good job and you just quit."

Nelee -> RE: THIS MAN knows how to stand up for what he believes. (2/7/2013 11:19:19 AM)

That's how I was feeling about the entire thing. I respect the fact that he's so... devout... but at the same time, he had a job that--by his religion--he could credit to his God, and just quit... Purely due to coincidence... It rubs me the wrong way. [>:]

mnottertail -> RE: THIS MAN knows how to stand up for what he believes. (2/7/2013 11:21:46 AM)

I wonder if he would sell out his soul if they offered him $666 an hour.
