isn't it about time that the hang-up on public displays of nudity be abolished? i mean...it's not like there's anything to hide.

OedipusRexIt -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 12:10:59 PM)

Part of me agrees with you, in that there should be nothing inherently wrong with public nudity, and sexual mores would become far more sensible if there were not prohibition.

On the other hand, my elitist snob self says I don't want to see a bunch of ugly naked people.  I run the Bay 2 Breakers race every year in SF and see my share of them there...

I'm torn between what seems sensible, and the need to protect my sensibilities.

My eyes!!!!!! AAAaaahhhh....

Moloch -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 12:12:28 PM)

No!

michaelGA2 -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 12:12:47 PM)

ahhhhh, but if everyone were allowed to go nude, then it might be a better incentive for those with the ability to lose weight to do so. [;)]

OedipusRexIt -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 12:15:31 PM)

Possibly.  Just as possibly, those who already have little or not self-respect and/or little or no self-discipline would remain so, only naked.

.... and in some cases sunburned!

michaelGA2 -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 12:17:56 PM)

yeah, of course, it would be on a voluntary basis.

OedipusRexIt -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 12:26:52 PM)

Well, your original point was still well made.

It's a silly hangup, and my response was a bit flippant.  Hope that won't keep others from chiming in.

michaelGA2 -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 12:31:39 PM)

nah...anyone can post here...i do have some people on ignore so their responses do not matter to me anyway...LOL

If I could take a moment to introduce you to www.aanr.com

This is a resource that will tell you lots of campgrounds in Florida, Georgia and around your general area michael. In fact it has clubs (campgrounds, and some non landed clubs that get together) and do allow nudity.

Now some things you should know;

These are not swingers places. This is not a place to go for 'public humiliation training'.

No one will judge your body shape. In fact, if anything you will come away feeling "Hey, I am more normal than the perfect body people" because you will see everybody is just people.

It is not 'sexual'. It just farting around, swimming and whatever in the buff. You'll see people biking, talking, laughing, playing botchi, etc

men are not supposed to get 'erections' publicly. Once you are there, you will see the vibe is so nonsexual, that you will see that isn't as big a deal as it sounds.

everyone sits on a towel. it is considered bad form to show up and not sit on one.

you can eat in the restaurants, etc totally in the buff.

you can leave your car doors unlocked and your cabin/apt that you rent. As a rule no one ever bothers anyone and these places bring out the best in people. believe it or not, I feel safer at one than any other place.

it is family oriented.

it has nothing at all to do with BDSM.

There is a lot of great stuff out there to read about it. Far more eloquently put than I can. I think it is relaxing and interesting.

note: when you bring up aanr to people, they sometimes say "Oh, I know a nude beach near here"

nude beaches are generally more wild, for gays and swingers and a few europeans/thrill seekers. This is nothing like that.
Some of the groups you find on that site may actually go to a nude beach and show up there (the non landed ones) but they generally stick together, post signs for beachgoers to be warned, and conduct themselves by good standards even in those places. Still, don't confuse a nude beach with an aanr group.

so you get your wish. public nudity is allowed, in some places.

I am most comfortable in casual clothes. It hides the imperfections.

I love to see men with no shirt- and bulging sweaty muscles. [lick lick!!]

I enjoy woman as friends. It would be hard not to look at breasts if they were thereeeeeeeeeeeeee.  [hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm]

One problem with this as with many "laws" - is there would be selective enforcement.

I know maybe 3 females that wont get in the hot tub with a bathing suit on!  Come one. Love yourself.

That last part about loving yourself makes me feel a little guilty about being an elitist snob.  Just a little.

I want people to love themselves, but there are things I don't want to see.  I can always learn to look away though, so voting for the nudity thing.

Which ballot will that be on again....?

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 1:25:29 PM)

I'm all about giving adults free choice- and see no reason why nudity should be a problem.

So, with most things, I think we should have the choice to be as nude or not nude as we like, whereever we go.

pahunkboy -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 1:34:22 PM)

American culture places too much emphasis on ones looks- ones beauty.

That SUCKS.

OedipusRexIt -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 1:50:02 PM)

You're right of course.

Still, I am what I am.

Now, tell me you don't like someone extra good looking more than someone who's not (all other things being equal, such as personality).

Tell me, I know you won't lie.

Moloch -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 1:55:09 PM)

Hahah!!! now thats funny!!!

lisa1978 -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 2:23:52 PM)

We are way too much hung up on nudity in America. I hope it changes.

I do think you twisted your words a little bit OedipusRexit. You first stated that you did not want to see some people naked which is exclusive and judgemental thinking. Then you went for like seeing more than others which is personal preference and human nature.

Two different things one does not really support the other. IMO

OedipusRexIt -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 2:31:23 PM)

Actually, what I did was change my mind, based on the wisdom of a previous poster.

Call it what you will.  Does it matter?

Nope! Not one bit.

meatcleaver -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 2:42:48 PM)

Public nudity is something that isn't worth getting hung up about as it actually has a tendency to desexualise (is that a word?) the human body. Even when you see gorgeous women naked on a beach, after fifteen minutes you are looking more at the women who are wearing something. Prohibition is the source of enjoyment. Everything is pretty liberal where I live. It is not public nudity that is outlawed but if someone who is nude, who is under reasonable consideration, liable to cause offence. So if you go into a church nude, then yes, you are probably going to cause offence. If you underdress in the street you are probably going to be told to stop being a jerk and put your clothes back on before you catch your death. There was a free concert in the park not long ago and quite a few people were walking around nude. No one really bothered. I was with my daughter and she knows what a naked man looks like, it really isn't a big deal as there was no sexual context.

OedipusRexIt -> RE: Public Nudity (6/20/2006 2:43:52 PM)

Good.  Don't have any reason to argue here.

I understand your point about being inconsistent and it was a valid one, as many of your points often are (actually really liked your reply to another post today, but that's another post).

It's a big world and room for all of us.

Directed to Lisa...
