SPEAKER BOLGER SAYS HOUSE WILL NOT APPROVE LEGISLATION MANDATING TRANSVAGINAL ULTRASOUNDS

February 7, 2013

LANSING-- Speaker Jase Bolger today said the Michigan House of Representatives will not approve legislation that leads to mandating transvaginal ultrasounds for women prior to having an abortion.

"While I want to be sure women have access to the best technology available, I have absolutely no interest in forcing a woman to have a transvaginal ultrasound," said Bolger, R-Marshall. "This House of Representatives will not pass a bill mandating transvaginal ultrasounds.

"We must increase the value of life in Michigan because all life is valuable and no life is disposable. No matter a person's beliefs regarding abortions, I hope we in Michigan can come together on goals we can all agree on. Specifically, I hope we can improve pre-natal care. I hope we can increase support for women who may need it if they become unexpectedly pregnant. I hope we can improve and increase adoptions in Michigan. I hope that a woman who becomes unexpectedly pregnant and cannot keep her baby knows she will receive all the support she needs to have that baby and that a Michigan family will be able to quickly adopt, love and raise the child."

If he means what he says then that is pretty cool. Even if he is from michigan :)

Well, come on, I have to believe that MOST people don't think that's a good idea...

Well, my benefit-of-the-doubt meter tells me that most of the people that ARE in favor of it don't actually understand what it is. I am thinking they believe the talk is only about your regular, everyday, "thingy" on the belly ultra-sound.

I'm in total agreement. I don't remember the last time sanity came from that state up there [8D]

I actually just finished re-reading a book that talked, in part, about this (The Holy Vote, by Ray Suarez). Regardless of ideological positions on the right to obtain an abortion, the vast majority of people would prefer to see the number of abortions go down. So instead of merely passing laws to prevent abortion, let's do things that result in fewer unwanted pregnancies, and more options for those unwanted pregnancies.

If taking this stance is what passes for reasonableness nowadays, the bar is pretty low.

Actually there is quite a bit of sanity up here. I just got this in my email today

Of course the bullshit that comes out of Detroit tries to overshadow it, but it's there all the same.

Hey now, don't mean to hijack but what's wrong with Michigan and Detroit ? How would any other city or state do when the corporate plunderers move move millions of jobs to the Chinese and Asian gulags and more millions of jobs are no longer supported by those ?

Yes, Coleman Young like far too many city govts. didn't do anything but protect their entourage but that's nothing new on the block. Just because it's illegal to fall asleep in your bathtub, doesn't mean it's all bad.

For the umpteenth time, it isn't about Detroit or cars or people, i.e., society. In America, it is all about money...profits.
