My sub is going to Russia soon. We are trying to think of good gift ideas for him to take. Does anyone know anything that might be a good gift, maybe something that is difficult to find in Russia (a certain kind of candy, food, or drink maybe?), not too expensive, and that can go on a plane?

I just realized that the title is not very clear. My sub is an American. He will be staying with a Russian family in Russia.

Great idea. A little basket with soaps and lotions and things would be perfect. Thanks.

I do not have any suggestions - but would warn against perishables like foods.  You might find them removed as some countries have certain restrictions on importing foods.

You have some very good wineries in Upstate New York. Maybe something from your own local winery and some samples from others near by. And some local cheeses to go with it.
If you or she are artsy craftsy you could make up a nice basket with the wines, cheeses, stemware, crackers and a cheese board and knife.
