I have never heard Miley Cyrus sing anything before, but I like this. Does she usually sing this sort of thing?

I had a quick listen to Dusky's link......

Average singer, average looks.
Nothing special.

She doesn't have much power in her voice.

I'll give her a miss thanks.

I enjoy some of her work. She is young. She is experimenting with a lot of different stuff. Her backyard songs recordings I've enjoyed listening to.

I admire that she didn't let the system pigeon hole her.

She does a pretty good job with Jolene, and without the machine gun/Elmer Fudd vibrato ;)

I always liked the lyrics to this song - great sentiment:

The Climb

As an aside, as a music teacher with a Master's in vocal/choral music, I am very aware that she is not well-trained, and in some ways her voice is raw. But I teach my students that part of musicality is to learn to appreciate a variety of styles and genres, so even though personally she ain't my favorite, I can appreciate what she does bring to the table. That philosophy is how I got a bunch of 5th graders to appreciate opera ;)

Besides - whether she is a Kathleen Battle or Adele or Ella or not - I would wager that she sings as well as most people who listen to the radio every day.

Indeed.

My CD collection is pretty much an A - Z of music. I try to avoid placing boundaries on art.

I discovered a fun, newer artist, the other day.

Isn't this one of the main causes of vocal polyps plaguing the music industry today?
