I tend to give our cats literary names whenever possible - right now, we have cicero (marcus arelieus) and samson and delia and juliette. we have a lancelot and gunievere.

My dog, a shiba inu, is tatsu (dragon).

When i was younger i lived on a farm with a cow named Betsy, a horse named nightmare and a Hog named sludge (don't ask). Now i have a cat and a fish and they dont have names...they wouldn't come to me if i called them by their names anyway lol.

One of these days I'll get a tropical fish tank and go with a thematic naming scheme, though instead of literary I'll go with villians and serial killers like Stalin, Dahmer, Bundy . . .

i have the prettiest white cat, who is deaf (thankfully) because her name is "Cooties"
The kids find it funny if a visitor picks her up, because they can then say "You've got Cooties!!!"
We also had 3 pet mice given to us, i wanted to call them, breakfast, lunch and dinner. But the kids named them Bubblewrap?? SPG=Special Patrol Group and Alfred. Alas poor Alfred (aka breakfast) indeed was breakfast!!!!
Aaaah, you gotta love 'em![:)]

When my son was 3 we had a dog. It is not a recognized breed, a Portugese Hunting Dog. When he saw he said, "Turtle." We explained it was a doggie and he said, "Turtle." We decided that was his name.

I thought that was the weirdest pet name around until I took Turtle to the vet. a family with two dogs and a three year old got cat. They had to name it "old dog."

feline -> RE: Goofy names for pets (11/15/2004 11:02:23 AM)

I had a Chihuahua named Kirby. She always had her nose to the floor, like a vacuum cleaner. LOL
I have had numerous cats. But none with crazy names. And the list would be way too long to present here. So I will just go with my present feline Nemesis (named before the movie, for the Goddess)

Take care,

three cats... Pooka, who saddly lived up to his name. Well, he doesn't get people in to water so he can drown them but still. Spot (Her really name is damascus because of her markings, but those same markings lead her to be called spot). And Dee O'gee. Our Irish kitty. :) I feel kinda bad about her name, turns out she's a little on the mentally challaged side and maybe calling her dog didn't help. I have a LARGE apple snail named escargo. What the hell else do you call a snail. Oh yeah. I had two betta fish once. Red fish and Blue fish. Yes named for Siesse. But of course the red one was Blue fish and the blue one Red fish.
go figure

Okay, cruel name for a dog.. but it happen to fit him. Was a red merle Aussie shepard, that my brother decided to name "Junkyard Dog". Eventually this got shortened down to "Junkyard". Our mother also thought it was appropriate.

ModeratorThree -> RE: Goofy names for pets (11/15/2004 10:27:28 PM)

2 ferret's willie & xena the warrior ferret.. she is much smaller than willie and scruffs him all the time.

Growing up I had a poodle names zha zha and a great dane named flipper mcgee.

My previous dogs were kane, kira & chase. My cats were samson, simone and simon. As well as wendall.

My cat's name is Mr Miaggi from the karate Kid movies. (Though spelled differently) But he also has "secret names" such as Kung Foo Foo and Clawless the Fearful. LOL

I recently got a kitten from the shelter. He was so cute and looked so fuzzy that the name stuck...his name is fuzzywuzzy.

AandOats -> RE: Goofy names for pets (11/23/2004 10:38:29 PM)

i have an entire managerie. However, i have 4 corn snakes with unusual names: There's Fluffy, a white or snow corn. The other 3 have a food theme: Tangerine (oldest and biggest) Muffins, and Cocoa Puff. I once had a corn snake named wheat germ too. Sadly she died after a month due to a genetic disease. I love the food themed names for corn snakes.

My poor Dom cat got stuck with Dude. The Domme cat is a nice respectable Pixel. They both respond to Furforbrains and Fuzz Butt. Poor Dude has been also saddled with *blush* Flirtybutt. (His butt swings from side to side when he walks..)

INSIDEYOURMIND -> RE: Goofy names for pets (11/24/2004 12:50:19 PM)

We have snakes, Burmese Pythons to be specific, they are Sleek, Slick, Ace, and Spike. They are also 16.5, 14, 6, and 2 feet long!

This is a recent photo of the big kids!

My mom does that too. Our cat was Shelley (as in Mary and Percy Byshe) and our dog is Charlotte (as in Bronte). Then again, she does it for kids, too :) My sister is Emily, from the other Bronte. Dad named me :)

LoL, my mother was dead set on naming her first born daughter Candice. My dad thought it was an awful name to hang on a child, so he went out and bought my mother a female kitten and named it Candice. When it came time to name me, my father pointed out that they couldn't name me after the CAT, as they'd be the laughing stock of the whole family.

suzeeQ -> RE: Goofy names for pets (11/26/2004 4:49:19 AM)

I used to have a dog named Othello, but he passed on so has no more pets.
