You already have the report you posted it, or don't you remember.

So it was that study, then. Oh good. [:)]

In the 53.2% of incidents involving threat or attack, the offender initiated the threat or use of force in 83.5% of cases. Additionally, relevant to limits on magazine capacity, 52.8% of incidents involved more than one offender. Armed defenders fired in 23.9% of incidents, including warning shots, and fired for effect in 15.6% of incidents, wounding or killing the offender in 8.3% of incidents, for a hit rate of 53%. At this point, of course, we are down to only a small percentage of the sample so the statistics don't rise to significance. But a review of fifteen different studies found that police "inflicted at least one gunshot wound on at least one adversary in 37% of the incidents in which they intentionally fired at someone," and we know where some of those misses went.

The shooting outside the Empire State Building on Friday took a new turn Saturday: New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says all nine bystanders wounded in the deadly incident were "struck either by fragments or bullets fired by the police." ~NPR

Do you have any other "facts" you'd like to attribute to the study?

K.

Yes it is. Maybe you should stop making shit up? Just a suggestion. I know it's difficult to break long-standing habits.

Would you learn to do 2 things

1. learn to PROPERLY use the quote function

2. If you're going to make a claim, YOU show the goddam evidence and quit acting like a 12 year old.

The earth's molten core will solidify long before either happen.

tommonymous -> RE: Home Defence (2/11/2013 6:57:34 PM)

I thought of two others to consider: The Winchester SXP and the Benelli Nova. Both are available in a decent configuration to fit your needs. So, look at them in addition to the Browning BPS and the Remington 870 Police.

A note about fit: When you shoulder the shotgun, you shouldn't have to bring your face down much to meet it and you should be looking along the barrel, not down at it from the top, and certainly not missing the sights all together. It's okay if the butt hangs projects off the top of your shoulder some, and make sure to get the butt into the hollow just inside of your shoulder "hump" and outside of where your clavicle protrudes to the front.

I see that the Langoliers have eaten another thread.

Kirata -> RE: Home Defence (2/11/2013 11:15:09 PM)

A little off topic for a Home Defense thread, but since we've been engaging in a bit of gun-porn take a look at this system:

Military.com Video

Commercially available versions are chambered for the .338 Lapua Magnum and .300 Win Mag. Do not have food or drink in your mouth when looking at the prices.

Not a shotgun, but another interesting choice is a carbine. Personally I like the M1 carbine, it's small, light, reliable, easy to operate, and effective close in. Obviously the AR based carbines work well too, just a little tough to get ahold of at the moment.

The m1 has the same space requirements as the shotgun with less punch than many handguns.

Thinking of getting a pump Action Shotgun for home defense. I do not plan on going hunting with the thing, I just need something to blow a hole through someone if they come in the house.

Anyone have any suggestions on make or model? price range I should look at?

More is better.

Shotgun is a good choice.

Mossburg makes a very simple, easy to load 12 ga.

OO buckshot is good.No need for magnum loads. It`ll be quite enough with regular shells.

Lock it up when you leave the house.

Is it a TOS violation? If it is, report it.
