jlf1961 -> Educational channels are really getting disperate for ratings (2/10/2013 5:07:36 PM)

I am a big fan of the History, H2, Science and Discovery channels. However, the Discovery has gotten pretty loaded with reality tv type shows, which is kinda depressing. Science is showing Fringe and day long marathons of Firefly. H2 is showing some shows that are really stretching the term "educational television." For example, Ancient Aliens, Unearthed America, are two good examples. On one episode of Ancient Aliens, the narrator was talking about the Aztec and Mayan civilizations... "By the mid 1500's the civilizations had vanished." Mayan civilization collapsed around the 1100's due to the city states outgrowing their resources to support them, and the Aztec civilization vanished thanks to some other worldly visitors.... the fucking Spanish. Same with the Incas. Just who are they trying to convince? Six year olds?
