jlf1961 -> Educational channels are really getting disperate for ratings (2/10/2013 5:07:36 PM)

I am a big fan of the History, H2, Science and Discovery channels.

However, the Discovery has gotten pretty loaded with reality tv type shows, which is kinda depressing.

Science is showing Fringe and day long marathons of Firefly.

H2 is showing some shows that are really stretching the term "educational television."

For example, Ancient Aliens, Unearthed America, are two good examples.

On one episode of Ancient Aliens, the narrator was talking about the Aztec and Mayan civilizations... "By the mid 1500's the civilizations had vanished."

Mayan civilization collapsed around the 1100's due to the city states outgrowing their resources to support them, and the Aztec civilization vanished thanks to some other worldly visitors.... the fucking Spanish.

Same with the Incas.

Just who are they trying to convince? Six year olds?

Its the re-witing of history for grant money. Stuff like hitler wasn't such a bad guy, look what he did for the german people...none of them complained (cough except the jews & those stuck behind the berlin wall)
Anything about the spanish (or americans for that matter) slaughtering the indian & killing them with disease...poof. Oh and reservations are the best idea ever [:'(]

World is getting ready to fall to shit & they want people to think its a good idea.

I've noticed it too and it saddens me. But I guess they need the money and it's a way to pull in the conspiracy theory type of people who seem to be growing larger and larger by the day.

I love to watch those channels but I've been watching them less and less. I really miss the educational tv they used to have. I mean even these days when they show something like Egyptian history, they have to throw in some kind of stupid shit that is just completely ridiculous.

I've been noticing I've been watching PBS more lately. It's the only channel that actually has education on anymore.
