Good question. Since it is a youtube video, not a valid news report or article, it's difficult to say what happened. This guy is not reporting facts, he's reporting his opinion and version of them.

Now if you can find actual news articles about the incident, that would be different.

You did notice that one article also claims that he was armed, right?

Look, I'm not saying what the officer did that night was right, but I am saying that I will never get up in arms over some guy who's main medium for reporting is youtube videos.

I also find it amusing that people talk about excessive force but feel it is completely appropriate to shoot someone who comes in their house. Where I live, even self defense is on a "like for like" basis. In other words, if you have a knife, I don't get to use an uzi.

There is no place in America where that is the case. Attack with a knife is considered deadly under the law, and using a gun against a knife attack is proportionate.

New Jersey even defines for us “deadly weapon”. A deadly weapon is any weapon known to be capable of producing death or serious bodily injury or which, in the manner it is fashioned, would lead the victim reasonably to believe it to be capable of producing death or serious bodily injury

I also read heard on the report, where the gun they claimed he wasn't what they described and didn't have his prints on it. Unless you are wearing gloves, kinda hard to hold a gun in your hand and not get finger prints on it.

I don't know of ANY state where if a knife is pulled on you you would get prison time for pulling a gun. A knife is considered deadly force.

When I was jumped when I was 18, the 5 women and man didn't have weapons I did pull out a knife. I wasn't charged with anything. DA said it was justified because they were using deadly force.

My issue is this.
If someone is running away from you.
If someone has their back towards you.
How is that a threat??
How is your life in danger?

If you watched the video, it was a member of Los Angeles Sheriffs Department, not Los Angeles Police Department, also it happen 2 years ago.

And this guy 4409 has lives in Arizonia and has had numerous arrests.

What does the person reporting the story having a prior history have to do with the the police shooting a man in the back??

And regardless of it is LAPD or Sheriff is that again justification for shooting someone in the back??

What does it matter if it was 2 years ago or 2 days ago.
It still happened.
Didn't it??

There was more than just his report on the this incident, even within his own youtube video. He did post the actual news report from ABC. Plus links from other news sources have been posted in this thread.

I am not sure why people are fixated on the guy who made the youtube video. From the cam shot and the article there is enough to make me wonder about this one. It will be interesting to see how the law suit ends. Even if the kid had a gun, once he was shot and hit the ground the cop could have tried to apprehend his without firing any more shots. It does not look like he tried though.

Powergamz1 -> RE: LA PD Chase and execute a man (2/12/2013 3:45:25 PM)

The legal standard has been cited. A clear and imminent danger to yourself *or others*, per the only nine people on the planet whose opinion has any power.

There are all sorts of circumstances where a person could be running away and still meet that threshold.

Doesn't mean that happened in this case, but the standard is still the standard, even when it is violated.

There was an article that claims he was armed but according to the family attorney (take that with a grain of salt OK) His fingerprints weren't on the gun.

Hmm, cop shoots someone in the back. 20 other cops show up.

"Hey, lookee....there's a gun 'koff koff'"

This begs the question. If his prints weren't on the gun, where did it come from?

I came across this video yesterday, when checking for my videos.
I do not consider this a "political" thread so I am not posting it on the politics and religion board. I do think it is off the topic, because it obviously has nothing to do with BDSM.

I am simply sharing this video because it made me go WTF.

It made me wonder what is consider excessive force?
I always thought police where supposed to use the "least" amount of force necessary to apprehend someone?

I thought people were innocent until proven guilty.
How is this not vigilante justice?

4409 -- LAPD chase man EXECUTE him Claim Self Defense

I haven't had any urge to check for my videos.
