I already tried search but do not know the right phrase to use. i know that what a bottom is can have a different meaning to different people. I have a kink partner who I see just for the kink. i think that is a bottom. Just wondering what others think a bottom is.

I was going to give a silly answer, like, "You sit on your bottom" (although in the BDSM sense, it could also work).

If you are the one "in charge" during your play with the friend, then yes, they are the bottom, you are the top.

Why worry about definitions? Sure, they can be handy, but they can hamper as well as facilitate.

What matters is that the two persons using the term understand each other.

With the kind of work I do i cant get to sleep when i need to. I want to be clear about what i / am not on my profile. Used to have this is not a lifestyle for me. Did not stop men as far away as Florida and Ohio wanting to talk. I changed it to i am a bottom, not a submissive or slave. I hope that is better. Never was good at filling those things out.

Maybe I'm too simplistic but the bottom is the submissive one and the Top is the Dominant one in a playful boudoir relationship.
So, for me, it's this hierarchy:

bottom is to Top for bedroom-only play
as
sub is to Dom for bedroom play plus 'more'
as
slave is to Master for 24/7

Yeah, that wouldn't work for me. I'm not a submissive. I have very little in submission, unless it's on my terms, and then you can't hardly call it submission , I wouldn't think.

But you did say it was how YOU defined it( smiles)

I tried to keep this pretty simple. To Me, a bottom is a person receiving sensations. This goes with My definition of top, which would be a person administering sensations.
