I have noticed that some people (men, in my case) are really into discussing Myers-Briggs types. They bring up the subject early and often. I also have noticed that I soon come to find these people insufferable for a variety of reasons. I am wondering if this is more than just coincidence. Is being a Myers-Briggs junkie a red flag in a person, or do I just happen to meet a lot of psych-savvy tools?

I've noticed it as well, now that you mention it. Being brought up by men. Is it a proven and valid method of determining one's personality? I know even I've taken it in the past, but I don't know if it's questionable or not. If it's not, then I think it could probably be interesting information. LOL - maybe I'm a tool, too. :)

Both?? MB can be used as a short cut to "figure someone out", the fact that control freaks want to figure out how to control you makes them tools.

Knowing someones MB type immediatly tells you strengths, weakness, how to approach/befrend them...you're the lawyer isn't that the cheat sheet for how to manipulate someone?

I love the MBPTI and I've found it to be accurate if given in a clinical setting, which is the only way to take the real one. There are free online tests that are based on the MBPTI, but they may or may not be as accurate. I took mine in college in a psych class, so I took the real one. IMO, knowing a person's type is very useful for understanding how the person thinks and why they react the way they do.

The MB approach is a tried and true one; there are others less validated but also interesting. You might be meeting some fairly bright guys!

FR I think Skeptic magazine did a piece on Meyers Briggs that was well skeptical about it. I'm not sure that the scientific or psychiatric communities take it very seriously. I've taken the tests a few times, found it interesting. You could use it as a conversation starter with someone you're getting to know. It could give you insight into how they see themselves etc.

If short version of the test is done honestly or the long version is paid to be done, this test actually comes out pretty accurate about a person's personality. There's a number of large corporations that use it in the hiring process and I could see it being an interesting way to screen potential partners. This said, I've never had a problem figuring out who would be a bad match for me with a single date and a little time chatting (in person or through IM.) My wife (who is also my very loving Miss and Domme) and I have never taken the test, we had both been looking for quite a while and we had both been resigned to not settling for someone who wasn't a match when we met. You can be a fake on the test just as you can be a fake in real life. Miss and I have never been fakes to each other so we didn't need a test, we just needed patience and honesty.

I find it funny when people use Myers Briggs as some kind of personality insight. I have taken the Myers-Briggs several times and depending on my mood that day I come out as completely different each time. Some days I'm outgoing. Other days I am not. Some days I like being organizational and not liking change. Other days I like to mix it up a little. I think people who try to use this as some kind of insight into who they are usually are the type who also read Ayn Rand in high school and Mein Kampf in college.
