Since the thread started in P&R, I have been looking into conspiracy theories.

So which ones do you think are believable?

For me personally, The Jesus one but I don't think it was a conspiracy, just people misinterpreting words because they did not Jewish Law and culture at the time of Jesus. I would not say he was married to Magdalene but he was married to someone most likely. There is no other reason his Apostles would call him "Rabbi" otherwise.

I also go back and forth on the death of JFK. Again, I don't think it was a conspiracy but I do believe there was a second shooter.

For either one to be a conspiracy, someone would have had to know the truth and hid it from the public. I don't think anything was hid, just misinterpreted or not given enough research.

i think jesus had a family. i'm not religeous but i am willing to believe that jesus existed, and that he did some great things. i don't believe he was a son of god in any literal sence, but maybe as a vicar could be. whether he was married to mary or not is something i have no idea about. i certainly think his life was probably very different to how it's written in the bible.

i also voted for the moon landings, but as in i don't believe for one moment that we've been there yet. there is far too much pointing at the fact that we haven't.

needles

btw, while i didn't vote for the cats it's because we all know they are trying to take over the world.

I'm not sure that all of those count as conspiracy theories anyway. Misrepresenting the details of Christ's life to pursue an agenda probably doesn't match the criteria for a start. As for Kennedy, that's practically a dada thing: "everyone their own conspiracy".
(That said, the notion that somebody in the military or the company might have taken a hand because they were worried that the stupid bastard was going to start the third world war if he stayed in power much longer isn't hard to believe after the Cuban missile crisis, the bay of pigs and the U2 incident...)

I try not to believe any of this crap simply because of the real purpose of conspiracy theories, though. If a sinister (invisible and unanswerable) cabal are running everything, then nothing is your fault. If you can't get your book of paranoid histrionics published it's because the conspiracy don't want the truth known, not because you write like EL James with brain damage. If you can't get a job, it's because the conspiracy has had you blacklisted, not because you're unemployable or there's nothing available (obviously a very soothing notion at the moment).
All any of this crap ever is, in short, is an excuse so that your own failings can be blamed on somebody else. Fuck that.

^This, plus I'm a firm believer in Occom's razor. Conspiracy theories unnecessarily complicate events. Does it make more sense that, for instance one or two guys got pissed and somewhat lucky, found a loophole to exploit, et al, or that there are some shadowy figures lurking in the background waiting for some opportune moment to make a point that most people don't really get, anyway?

I guess you could synthesize this idea with what Moonhead wrote to get the idea that, no, you're really not that special. So sorry to burst your bubble.

But, watch out for the cats, those little bastards can't be trusted. Except for my parents' brain-damaged cat. He thinks he's a dog, so he's okay.

Edited for punctuation/ clarity.

It was mind control, why else would the Hulkster do such a thing?

They already run the world (or at lease the households that they're housecats within): no need for any conspiracy there, is there?

Rabbi doesn't mean husband, it means teacher.

And under the law of Moses, which was in effect at the time of Christ, in order to teach in the Synagogue, or be a Rabbi, one had to be married.
