What kind of toys are you looking to make?

Pillow cases can make great sensory deprevation hoods or you can spend a few bucks and learn how to make your own leather collars and such (see attached photo for some of my work).

On the topic, I am about to start working on a leather and stainless steel collar...has anyone done the kind of work before? In particular, I am looking for hints on what kind of steel to buy, where to buy it, and how to work with it. Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Yours,
Taggard

If you can ignore the political stuff on the site in order to get to the meat, Frugal Domme has some great links.

I have a book on homemade toys. More than you could make.

I'm not posting a link to it because hey I have the book and also I'm too lazy to go find the link.

The name of the book is Kinky Crafts
99 Do-It-Yourself S/M toys for the kinky handyperson.

Edited by Lady Green with Jaymes Easton.

Greenery Press is the publisher.

You should have enough info to find it now.

Hopefully it solves your problems.

Well I have in my life been a welder and a blacksmith (ya; bang bang type: not horseshoes) I believe anyone in the know will agree that you have a dichotomy...... most of the stainless you are gonna see is 404 to 420 or so (its a manufacturing code) which is non-magnetic meaning no iron, this is why it does not rust, it has a high nickle content for softness and chromium for shine, but of course iron (actually steel) has stiffness, so in the knives stainlessware and so on they add some carbon to it for stiffness. [Grab a good butcher knife and stick the tip of it in your slaves shoulder bone and wiggle it a couple of times and you will see that it breaks off quite easily (oh you ruined my knife I am gonna have to punish you for real now)]............. I know the preceeding was a bad joke and I really apologize............ any way, unless you have a lot of tools and equipment, you probably want a stainless with high nickle (soft) and little to no carbon, and no chromium (brittle)........ I do not know the name of it but go to any local metal supplier and tell them that you are making dog collars for water spaniels...... need soft non-mag ss and they have a book that will give you uncountable choices, buy a little of each type that looks promising......and like real life ..experiment!! but unless you have alot of equip you are gonna probably end up not much more shiny than a new nickle you probably remember those shoe and belt buckles that were brushed chrome when we were kids? like that...now, if you got bucks go to your local jewler and have that silver plated (or gold) hope this helps and sorry that it took so long to get to the point.

Umm.. No.

The entire 400 series of SS is nickel free, magnetic and does indeed contain iron. The reason it doesn't rust is the addition of at least 10.5% chromium which creates a self-healing chromium oxide film that resists oxidation. You cannot have SS without chromium, or iron for that matter.

I made a pretty wicked wire flogger a little more than a year ago.

-Purchase some 1/2" copper tubing. ( You will be cutting this down for use as a handle, length as you desire)

-Once the tubing is cut to your desired length, file down any rough edges at the opening on each end.

-Purchase about 3-5 feet of the thinnest stainless steel aircraft cable you can find. (The cable I used was about as thick as the tip of a ballpoint pen.)

-Cut the cable into equal lengths. (Determine for yourself how long you want each fall to be and how much cable you have.)

-Insert the cable lengths into one end of the coppor tubing (About 3-5")

- Making sure the ends are even with each other, use a hot glue gun to fill in all of the copper tubing.

-let the glue set

-Finally, if desired, feel free to wrap the handle, decorate , whatever you'd like to make the toy more personal.

I left my handle bare so that it can be better used with a violet wand. I also unwound a very little bit of cable at the tips so that they make "little claws"

This is a great sensation toy. It's not intended for a full arm throw, rather gentle swipes across the skin.

Have fun,

~Thorns

I've had this bookmarked for quite a while... http://come.to/pervy.tool.time

One day I might even try and make something rather than just thinking about it!

I made a pretty cool paddle out of a weighlifting belt. I cut the buclke end off and wrapped the remaining end around a cut of broom handle and wraped black electrical tape around it for a temporary form..i then soaked it in water for 20 minutes and let it dry on a flat surface in the sun.The drying process stiffend it just perfect. Then i took off the black tape and glued the leather permanently onto the wooden handle. The result was a custom made paddle with a handle 14 inches long and a buisness end 4 inches wide and 15 inches long with all the buckle notch holes running the lenght of it in a double row. I call it "the Beaver Tail"

As a matter a fact, I do. I made sewn my own demin straightjacket. The nice part about the fabric chosen is that it is machine washable. (It also doesn't set off metal detectors at airports:)

willing2serve had started the following thread, (right here, in the General BDSM Discussion Area): http://www.collarme.com/forum/Pervy_tool_time/m_47185/tm.htm
The thread provides the following link: http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~tigerz/bdsm/menu.html

The link leads to a site with well written instructions which include photos of some toys which don't require a whole lot of advanced skill. The bonus is they also do not require a whole lot of $$$.

Why use steel? Go for the gusto and use titanium... and you might look to armorers for advice on making the collar...
