Master and I are so happy - He went to see the cardiologist today and got the all clear, and is now going on the transplant waiting list for a new kidney

We realise this will take a long time, the average waiting time is at least three years, but it is a chance He did not have before. He has been smoke free since the beginning of February which is also a factor in deciding who will go on the list.

This is a big milestone in our lives together, we have always thought we would have to live with His ill health for ever, and now we have a faint chance at having a "normal" life

It's good to know that he qualifies to recieve the transplant. Now you just have to wait for someone to die. But don't let that stop you from celebrating after the operation. Step one is now accomplished. Now it's on to step two in getting a kidney and step three in praying that his body accepts it.

Best of luck

Wonderful news!!! I'm happy for you both. A big step towards getting better.

Edited to add that kidney donors don't necessarily have to die to donate.

*fast reply*

Thank you everyone for your good wishes He has said He would not accept a kidney from a living donor, because their own family may have need of it some day, so it will have to be from someone who has died....not a nice thought but we would be extremely grateful to any family who agreed to donate their loved one's organs.

My ex brother in law lived for 17 years with a transplanted liver. He died a few months ago, but that was 17 more years he had to see his two daughters grow up, and a third daughter was born 3 years after the transplant. She would not exist were it not for a family's generosity. He also became a grandfather, and saw his grandson's first 4 years.

Regrettably Australia has one of the world's worst rates of organ donation So many people can be helped from just one person's organs. I am on the organ donation register, I won't need my bits when I'm dead but if they can help someone else they are welcome to anything that can be used.

My heartfelt congratulations Rayne !!
I understand exactly where your Master is coming from. I have kidney disease and could face that same thing some day. I also will not take from one of my relatives, for exactly the same reason.
One can get very good * milage* from a transplanted kidney these days. Here's hoping that he gets a match in the very near future.
