Yes it is. I saw this when it was brand new on the TED Talk list, and sent the link off to some people I know who would appreciate it, and understand the benefits.

I think it was a faith healer joke. It probably would have been funnier if he'd gone with the Oral Roberts expressway, somewhere in Oklahoma.

My question about the new technique is whether the bitumen is going to act as a sufficient sealant on the steel wool shreds to prevent oxidation, and the whole road essentially turning into gravel when the secondary binder rusts away. The paving industry has tried a number of tests with porous asphalt over the years, and they have never come up with anything that will hold together under real world conditions.
