Hagel's big problem is not that he is a Republican turncoat, or that he was nominated by a Democrat.

It is that he was honest enough to bemoan the stranglehold AIPAC ("the pro-Israeli lobby) has on US Middle Eastern policy and to insist that he was "a US Senator not an Israeli one". For these crimes, he is unacceptable to those US politicians who put Israeli interests ahead of their own country's interests.
