VioletGray -> Seth McFarlane and the Stupidity-outrage machine. (2/25/2013 5:05:22 PM)

I think that most people want to be good people. They want to live their lives without harming or being harmed. I think that India is free today in part because Ghandi through non-violent means brought to light how this basic desire to be a good human being conflicted with the reality of British rule.

The problem is sometimes people hearts act faster than the accompanying minds, and often the brain never catches up. Outrage can be a wonderful tool for social change, but when laced with traces of stupidity it's just wasted energy. Like an apple pie with just a dash of feces.

The Oscars are a prime example of the stupidity-outrage machine. Seth McFarlane is being called all kinds of names and the target of all sorts of vitriol because of his oscar jokes. They're calling him sexist. I can understand why the following would be seen as sexist:

“Zero Dark Thirty was about every woman’s innate ability to never ever let anything go.”

I think it was a playful jab if anything, and men and women comics take playful jabs at the other sex all the time. But I can at least see WHY it could be called sexist. But when Seth McFarlane said the following about child actress Quvenzhané Wallis:

“To give you an idea how young she is, it’ll be sixteen years before she’s too old for Clooney,” People are ranting and raving in comments about how he joked about pedophilia and how to joke about a 9 year old having sex with George Clooney is inappropriate. Those people are stupid, and even worse at math than I am.

There are quite a few people on this planet who are not happy unless they are outraged. This is what I have decided...oh, and they usually have the lovely side skill of always being right.

I wasn't uber impressed with Seth (I was really hoping for Stewie) but get a grip people; they were JOKES.

He never got the memo not to be so tasteless and crass while in the company of the Hollywood elite.

I think he did a good job, and lol'ed when he said "this is as bad as it gets... no, it gets worse".

But damn, he looks like Peter Brady.

Notsweet -> RE: Seth McFarlane and the Stupidity-outrage machine. (2/25/2013 5:49:15 PM)

Even though he was going to be on (I love Seth McFarlane) I still couldn't bring myself to watch that self serving crap. And the stuff above--THAT'S what people are whining about?

With the shit that they make and sell for 12 bucks a ticket? Srsly???

Level -> RE: Seth McFarlane and the Stupidity-outrage machine. (2/25/2013 5:53:16 PM)

The Lincoln joke probably got the worst reception there.

Notsweet -> RE: Seth McFarlane and the Stupidity-outrage machine. (2/25/2013 5:59:21 PM)

And I believe that's EXACTLY why he did what he did. He LOVES making the Hollywood elite uncomfortable. Here's a prime example:

Something like "the last person to get into Lincoln's head was John Wilkes Booth".

What, too soon?

Who was offended, Mrs. Lincoln?

People make up reasons to be offended. It's getting really, really tired.

Notsweet -> RE: Seth McFarlane and the Stupidity-outrage machine. (2/25/2013 6:04:11 PM)

Miss Gray, it appears that you and I are neighbors, or at least city-mates. Also, you are stunningly beautiful.
