We're not much in trying to stifle communication. The opposite, rather. He opens doors unless he's carrying heavy stuff in which case I try to get them for him. He gets car doors if parallel parked, if in a parking lot it depends on how far over the line the car next to us is. Common sense stuff. He holds my hand crossing the street. I'm a New Yorker, I always jay walk. He disapproves. And I have some vision problems including depth perception so hand holding makes it easier for me to step down when I can't judge how far down is.

was just sitting here reading this and another popped into my head. I carry all bags or packages unless they're too heavy or some other reason why I can't.

It's kind of hard to think of things because they are just so ingrained into everyday practice...but there are a few that come to mind. Everyday, he is the one to put my collar on/remove it (it comes off for showers and sleep.) I never do it myself. We also have a rule that I cannot leave our bedroom without my collar on unless he gives me permission to do so. When we are walking together, I am on his left side; it's not really an official rule, but it's so much habit for us that it feels uncomfortable for me to walk on his right side. I also walk slightly behind him most of the time--it just feels more comfortable and secure, especially when meeting new people, as I'm shy and he's more forward, and with him in the front he does the talking first. There are lots of little things like this, but off the top of my head those are a few.

I don't have that many rules I guess. Respect other peoples property. Don't wash my cast iron with soap. If you're riding in somebody's car, it's their car, including the radio, your job is to assist the driver, not distract them. If you're feeling froggy, I'll pull over somewhere. I'll think of some more, my computer is lagging like a bitch.

My former Master also would walk on the side closest to the road. According to him, it was so that he would be the one first hit if a car ran off the road. He would also move to "intercept" people coming towards us. If it was a man, it was to potentially protect me. If a woman, he just wanted the chance to get to her before I did ;)

He would take my next collar off at night, because it tended to pinch me.

In olden days, in this country, chamber pots were emptied out of the bedroom window ont the pavement below. It was seen as chivelrous for the man to walk to the inside, from the road, so that if a pot was emptied he got it...not his lady. Has your husband got English ancestors [:D]
