What makes me incredibly fucking angry is that something well thought out and reasonable, like Simpson-Bowles, is dismissed, and the jackasses on both sides keep driving our country towards a cliff.

The supporters of the bill will tout their $300 achievement, and their fighting for the entire bill, while the opponents of the bill will tout their fight to get it knocked down 40%. Obamacare was passed and the following month, a report comes out stating that taxes need to go up, entitlements need to go down, or both, else Government won't be sustainable. Was that really not known prior to Obamacare? Know what else I can't stand about the way Washington "works?" Obama and the D's have stated they have identified opportunities to make cuts in Medicare that won't change the benefits recipients get. Republicans have stated they have also identified places where Medicare spending can be cut without altering the benefits, too. Neither party has put together or pushed those changes through. They always have to be bundled with something else. WTF is that?!? It's Washington.

It's a minuscule cut... for 2013 it's 1.2% of a $3.6 TRILLION budget.

And then, when I found out that most of the cuts were backloaded, it made me even more ticked. Do you remember the $2T in spending cuts OBama was offering last year or the year before? IIRC, over $1T was ending the wars in Iraq/Afghanistan. That's what he was offering in negotiations with Republicans to raise taxes. As if they didn't negotiate he would continue the wars? Then, there was the Medicare cuts he was offering, the ones that were already to take effect because of Obamacare. And, the Republicans were excoriated for not negotiating.

If we are raising this much noise over THESE cuts, I literally think it would be game over, if we considered much more serious cuts. I have been saying this SAME thing for at least a year now. Most Americans have no concept of what it would take to even attempt to bring down the deficit, much less be willing to "go for it". It ain't going to happen, so is really bringing down the deficit even an option? Let's be ready to deal with REALITY and the American people.
