It's not plain old saliva. It's the saliva that is produced in the throat. It's thicker and slipperier than regular saliva. Try sticking your fingers down your throat right to the gagging point. Feel the difference in viscosity. I wish I produced as much of it as I've seen in movies but I'm not hydrated enough. Allergy pills every day keep my mouth and throat a little on the dry side. But if I don't take them I can't breathe at all through my nose so would really suck at sucking.
