Down With The Sickness by Disturbed

When I'm in a really pissed mood, I go for a walk and blast this through my headphones.

Hmm. This is just normal, listen on the way home from work, music.

Few people know this, but there are words to the theme song for M*A*S*H.   The words were included in the movie, but removed when they made the movie into a sitcom as it was thought to be too dark for prime time television.

My favorite dark song is that theme song, "Suicide is Painless."

midmichiganguy -> RE: Your favorite dark/disturbing songs? (3/2/2013 10:51:09 PM)

Fuck the Pain Away - Peaches
Du Reicht So Gut - Rammstein
Sonne - Rammstein
The Killing Moon - Echo and the Bunnymen
Mad World - Gary Jules
Gone Away - Offspring
Black No. 1 - Type O Negative
Cry Little Sister - Gerald McMann
Something Wicked This Way Comes - Nuclear Assault
Nemo - Nightwish
Wish I had an Angel - Nightwish

And many, many, more on my playlist but these are the top ones currently.

Another good one is Type O Negative's "Love you to death"

What I listen to depends on my mood. When in a dark, angry mood then it's something like Disturbed. When I'm extremely happy I will listen to something like..oohh...I dunno....80's pop music, when I'm feeling zen like, I like classical music. Most days though you'll find me listening to David Bowie, One Republic, Maroon 5 type music.

If I listened to dark, angry music all the time, my depression would be a thousand times worse and let's just say...it would be extremely bad.

Maaan good songs on this list. :)

6 Underground - hooray for someone else who remembers that awesome song!

Check Please and Ugly, both by Cold - two favorites.
I agree on Suicide is Painless

My tastes run very differently. An awful lot of the metal I've seen in this list is just standard iPod shuffle. It's my music, and tends to help me shift gears coming home, and get me motivated in the morning.

Here's another of the sort that I find dark and disturbing.

Tracy Chapman - Behind the wall

So I'm trying to think of something dark and disturbing, and Sympathy for the Devil came to mind, but I don't really find anything dark and disturbing about it. Well, I thought, how about Heroin, but it just makes me grin. C'mon, think! Dark and disturbing. Maybe Werewolves are dark and disturbing? Nah. And then it hit me!

Rap was invented by white guys. Now that's dark and disturbing. [:D]

Call Me, Maybe - Carly Sumthin

Polly - Nirvana

One song that I still cant believe was such a big hit is "Wrong Way", by Sublime.

Breagha, that Tool song is dark, but you can take some positive from it, too.

smartsub10 -> RE: Your favorite dark/disturbing songs? (3/4/2013 4:30:09 AM)

Heartattack and Vine....Tom Waits.

LightningVeins -> RE: Your favorite dark/disturbing songs? (3/4/2013 4:46:00 AM)

The first two I can think of are "Closer" and "Sin" by Nine Inch Nails.

i think that this proves the point " to each his own" as i find that song to be one of Tool's few un-dark and disturbing songs. i think that the overall message in it is very inspiring and uplifting.

"clinging to my muscle memory, contemplate what i've been clinging to. forty six and two just ahead of me..."

Jeff- great choice in song! love that one.

the song Tyler by the Toadies is a bit disturbing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKbk7BPXBa4

Love "Tyler"; and Possum Kingdom, too.

I agree with what you say re: Forty six & 2, but take the "wallowing in my own delusions", "learn to cry, kill and die"; yes, he's going through that in order to "cross to the other side", but to me, there is darkness thete.

Great song! I actually named my online journal on another site after it.

Rubberneck is just a great album in general. love me some Toadies.

as for "wallowing in my own chaotic, insecure delusions" etc... i guess i see it to be not dark because it is about facing that darkness to come out a better person on the other side. i think of the song as being more about the work and process involved than the actual darkness you have to go through to get past the "shadow".

BTW... not arguing that i'm "right" and you're "wrong"... i just like to hear other's interpretation of songs i love. and i do love this song.
