Thus the reason that I run a cleaning service now.

The theory behind a peer specialist is that presumably they have the same issues but have gotten their act together, so no excuses will fly with them. It only works if the peer has their shit together.

Refusing to go to support meetings? Refusing to go to therapy? Refusing to go to the psychiatrist and get the dosage adjusted? None of these qualify as having your shit together.

I have a kid with more severe issues, so severe that she's the only one with this severe variant to graduate high school, graduate college, compete on a level playing field with sports instead of Special Olympics, and she has her act together a lot more than the op. She's done the peer counseling, and is able to look the teens in the eye and tell them what's going on. She gets their respect and liking.

And when the meds weren't working, she called the psychiatrist and had them upped so she could sleep. Because not sleeping is a sign that nobody should ignore.

Yeah, if the case is such that reporting your mental health issues is part of having the job, I'm afraid the OP would be terminated immediately, based on her views of therapy alone. How can you help someone else do what they're supposed to be doing if you don't do it yourself?

Never was a fan of that "You have to have been there" school of (non)counselling. Not like you'd want someone with a severe heart condition to do your open heart surgery, ya know?

I can only say that I experienced two previous managers who both gave up their job at the end, due to their mental health problems....

One of them was being dismissed after she has bitten a service user in her hand and on top of that threatened her verbally (which got reported by the public as someone got that fact) and the other one came to the conclusion that she can't do that job anymore....she has been on two types of psychiatric drugs, one of them did not allow her to drive a car anymore....at some point she stopped taking that one so that she could drive the car again (cause she owned a bus for her kids group to be able to drive with them as a group) but then realised that this is not gonna get better....and handed in her notice...

I am just thinking that you should reflect yourself very well when you work in a care setting and when you realise you could be in the need of some additional help...get it in time...instead of always thinking that you will be ok and no problems will happen...
