No, it is the type of metal that is used for the backing on quality watches.  It is very soft.  The pen tip has to be able to hold it's spot while it is spinning, which it can do in harder metals such as gold, stainless steel and silver, but on quality watches it can not and will slide across the surface of the backing.  It makes for quite a mess.

Just a note, Gold is one of the softer metals used in jewlery. Unless you mean gold plated.

If the watch is titianium you can't engrave it either. It's too hard. Silver there really should be no problem or stainless steel. I've never had any trouble getting expesive pocket watches engraved.

Talk to the jewler or the engraver. they would know what you have and the likely hood of being able to do teh engraving you wish

For a engraving how about "Yours Beyond Time"

Hmm, I must have imagined the engraved titanium ring I bought for a friend's birthday present last year.  Here are two places that do such work, I'm sure there are *many* more:

Gillett's Jewelers
Titanium Rings Studio

If it can be fashioned into jewelry, it can be engraved.  Some metals are just harder to engrave than others.

If I got a watch from my love. I would like it to be engraved " Time enough for love "
Aside from the obvious, it also is the title of a good book. A book about finding reasons to go on forever, if they are good enough. ( a very short synopsis ). And always time love. Always time for my love. Many meanings, all good.

"Time Enough For Love" by Robert Heinlein.

I have the original edition hardback, from when it was first published, when I was 17 years old.

The "LL" in my sig is the character that the book is about - Lazarus Long.

Excellent book.

This may seem a little dull, but what about something very simple..."Yours"

(Fast Reply)

Is there a symbol/picture/object that you both personally share?  I gave Master a money clip with my brand engraved on it.  I searched online and found an engraver that could specialize engraving just about anything.  I'm happy to look up who it is if you're interested.  She was wonderful to work with.  I had to find someone more savvy in computer art than I to be able to put the design into a file the engraver could use.  But it ended up being a very personal gift (and I like the idea of hanging out in his pocket like that).  He liked it very much.  The vender did a great engraving job.   Of course there were set up fees, artwork fees, shipping fees...but the outcome was worth it, and it was about as personal as I could get.

If you are marked, an engraving of your mark would be very personal.

I've had every Timex I've purchased as a gift engraved... Stainless steel engraves just fine.

If this is a pocket watch, I stand corrected.  However, I have a $700 Wittenauer and I bought My ex-wife a $300 Bulova.  Both of them cheap watches when you think of the grand spectrum of watches, but neither one can be engraved because the bezel's metal is too soft.  In fact, it was the Bulova that got screwed up.  It used the same metal.  If you want to go buy a Timex or something you should not have any problems that I know of.

ownedgirlie -> RE: A moment in time (6/22/2006 5:11:35 PM)

For buying fine watches, engraving can be done on the band.  I just found the most lovely Breguet watch for a mere $116,900, with a beautiful leather band which had engraving options.  Engraving does not necessarily have to be on the metal itself.  For a fine watch, initials could be set inside the band.

Thanks for everyones suggestions [:)] SirKenin had me worried so Ive spent the last hour trying to work out what its made of, it's stainless steel, should engrave easily (whew). It's a seiko sports watch so it can take wear and tear easily (Master will be wearing it at work).

Actually loved that idea about engraving the band ownedgirlie, I could put a word on each kink, I mean link!!!!

So many good suggestions, really thinking hard on this [:)] It's just got to be so perfect!

I took the titatium watch to 4 different jewlers and all told me they couldn't do it.

I was talking about my experience no need to get snotty about it.
