Absolutely f*cking disgraceful! I'm not shedding tears over a guilty verdict for two rapists. Maybe they should have thought about what a hideous thing there were doing when they were treating another human being like a lesser human without her consent or even her consciousness.

The petition to tell CNN what a crap job they did with their report on how terrible it is on these criminals to be convicted and what a horrible toll it took on their lives is up and running. Took Me about three seconds to sign it.

Shame on you, CNN!

It was all a "joke" until one of the MANY MANY people who viewed the video and images posted on social networking had the decency to report it. What bothers me most is that so many people knew, watched, and shared with their friends for days before anyone stood up for the victim. The victim who was the girl.. not the poor jocks whose lives were apparently ruined according to CNN.

Exactly. I was just sitting here telling clip that if My kid would have had anything to do with this texting/photo sharing/whatever crap, I'd have killed him. I couldn't even fathom such a thing.

The angle that CNN is using as a sob story for these two rapists is pathetic. I don't feel bad for them.

Its not just CNN

It wasn't enough that ABC aired a rosy profile of one of the now-convicted rapists before the trial, emphasizing his happy mood the night of the rape and his football career. Instead, CNN anchor Candy Crowley and correspondent Poppy Harlow talked about how hard it was to watch the convicted rapists break into tears, given their good grades and, again, their football-playing prowess. NBC's Ron Allen spoke eloquently about the boys' "dreams" of college and, again, their football skills now wasted by their convictions. And, of course, the AP, USA Today and Yahoo stories about the convictions all led off with how the victim in the case – of whom the boys were convicted of raping – was reportedly drunk on the night in question. The convicted rapists' intoxication, or lack thereof, was not, apparently, editorially important.

Oh hey thanks! A better petition. That saves me the trouble of finding the appropriate email address individually.

Oh yeah. It is not just CNN, though currently it is taking the brunt of the bad press about the coverage. It is the mentality of acceptance that irks me. As a rape victim early on in my life I heard enough of that BS, 46 yrs later it is more of the same.

This has been one of the most ridiculous cases, and the coverage has been just as ridiculous. I'm sick of the sympathy for the rapists. Absolutely sick of it. It's like they don't think the victim's life was ruined -- oh those boys had such promising - man what the fuck ever. They were animals and they belong in jail. FULL STOP.

I don't want to see them blubbering and crying anymore. It's just pathetic.

P.S. Petition signed.

Boohoo.

Those post-conviction stories were sickening. It's like nobody is considering the fact there was an ACTUAL victim in this case. Those football players were the perps, not the victims, they did this to themselves.

So... there is an appeal in process now as I understand. The claim is at age 16 the mind is not developed enough. Odd, my children felt empathy even for their stuffed animals when they had some damage. But, that's the system for you, don't teach human values.
More on this subject today, regarding threats to the rape victim.

Good God almighty! Not mature enough to understand/empathise/ realise that raping an unconscious woman is wrong AND illegal? They need to be locked up until they realise/understand and empathise that what they did was wrong. Be that when it may happen.

The CNN story and reporter made me angry. How dear they empathise with the bad guys and completely ignore the victim.

I am in NO WAY defending CNN or any of the other news outlets, but...... they are restricted from saying much about the victim, as she is not an adult, and as such, they can't publish her name, so I'm guessing interviews would be difficult.

That doesn't mean that they should be showing sympathy for the rapists. But, I understand why it feels like they aren't as focused on the victim. They aren't allowed to.

I will say that the media in Canada that I've heard reporting on this have shown just as much disgust with CNN and others. It makes me feel a little better to know that not ALL media is immune to the suffering of the victim.

For what it is worth, a copy of what I sent CNN.

quote:

Ms. Harlow's report on the verdict in Stubenville about the two football players found guilty of rape was a travesty of journalism. She went on and on about how the conviction ruined the lives of the two boys.

Where was her concern over the impact of the crime on the victim?

I have had two friends who were victims of rape, one committed suicide and the other is still seeing a therapist 15 years after the fact.

Yet your reporter cares only for the ones who committed the crime.

CNN should have her issue an apology to the victim, and terminate her immediately.

I have a suspicion that may explain CNN's odd coverage: the reporter who actually wrote the story has someone close to them who has done time and is well acquainted with how truly screwed up the U.S. prison system is. That being said, CNN is not the place to editorialize or advocate for prison reform.

Missokyst, please understand that My harsh language is not directed at you.

With that said..........

What a load of shit! I might even f*cking puke.

You (the guilty) did this. You even apologized when you realized you were so f*cked in the head that you completely skipped the concept that this was a living, breathing human being. You sexually assaulted this young girl and ruined her life and NOW you didn't understand?

Bullshit!

I am disgusted by the small town politics of sport heroes. It sickens me that the actions most took were to protect the boys from their actions. And that the true victim is still suffering from abuse by people blaming her for the emotions the boys felt in being convicted. I was very glad that the two girls who posted threats on their twitter and facebook accounts after the verdict were arrested. I hope that something comes of that but logically I know it is unlikely.

I'm hoping for the same. Not just for the ones who sent electronic threats, but also for those who sent sexually explicit pictures of the incident while it was in progress. If I were in the DA's office....... Well, first of all, I'd be ashamed at the original lack of prosecuting the case. Then, I'd have to get My ass back to recognizing what is breaking the law, rather than doing the 'hometown hero' stuff. Every person who *sent* those pictures to others should face their penalties, too.
