Ten of the 11 gigs she had scheduled for the remainder of March through April have been axed after the born-again Christian slammed gay marriage at Yoshi's, according to Billboard.com. Shocked reportedly said during the gig: "When they stop Prop 8 (law outlawing same sex marriage in California) and force priests at gunpoint to marry gays, it will be the downfall of civilisation, and Jesus will come back... You can go on Twitter and say, 'Michelle Shocked says God hates f**s'." Yoshi's execs immediately pulled the plug on her show after her outburst, and management has promised not to allow her to play there again. Following the incident management posted on Twitter: "We at Yoshi's SF do not & will not ever tolerate the type of bigotry & hatred exhibited last night by @MShocked. She will never be back." Since her tirade, 10 additional venues have pulled the singer from their schedules, including the organizers of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado. She was billed to perform on June 23." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wow...my question is why? Was this a ploy for attention or a cry for help? Yeah, she`s got 1st Amendment rights yada yada...save it. We've heard it before.

A crap folk singer who was big for ten minutes in the late '80s. I'm surprised that she still has a career at this late stage: perhaps she's fed up of making a living as a third rate Nanci Griffith impersonator and that's why she's throwing tantrums onstage?

So I recant, white men can't make jokes about blacks, jews, or gays unless it is self-deprecating. White heterosexuals can't make jokes about homosexuals that insult their orientation or say that God hates them. Whites can not say certain words or they are accused of being a racist (granted those words were commonly used by racists so go figure). I don't cry about being discriminated against. It's just reality. Discrimination is everywhere get the fuck over it and get on with it like so many generations before that bred Jackie Robinson, the Tuskageegee (* spelling) Airmen, Obama, Italians, Irish, Jews, women, homosexuals, etc.. Now the time of white successful people being discriminated against is here, and we will overcome, we will overcome.

After her brief moment of fame, she practically disappeared from the general public's eye. After this, she'll probably get offered a contract to be a regular guest on Pat Robertson's The 700 Club and Fox And Friends.

Of course, that has nothing to do with the gay marriage debate, and I don't know of any person who advocates that. She has First Amendment rights, so she can't be fined or thrown in jail, which is good. I also have no problem with the venues dropping her. Free speech rights don't mean that a person can say anything without fear of consequences. Those are natural consequences to speech of that sort. And it may turn out better for her (from her perspective) than she was before, anyway. If what everybody's saying about her career is true, then she didn't have much further down she could have gone. Now she's got some national attention, her name is in front of people again...she may become a spokesperson of sorts for the extreme religious right.

honestly my first thought when i read this was " but i thought she was gay? " i remember her from when i was younger. pretty sure i remember there being some sort of issue with her sexuality.

It is always good news when an ignorant bigot gets slapped down. To spend your life hating another group of people seems like such a waste. It's just a shame that those who can see the ignorance in this type of hate totally ignore it when it is being used against political targets. Going on rants against all liberals or all conservatives is just as hateful as the bitch in the op, but somehow that kind of behavior seems to get a pass on here.
