Kirata -> U.S. Govt to Citizens: Tell us Everything or Else (3/21/2013 1:22:48 AM)

The lucky among us will soon have government apparachiks knocking on our doors asking a LOT of questions.

Rage over the waste and injustice of agents sent by the federal government to bang on doors of law-abiding citizens to ask probing, creepy questions is normally something that bubbles up only every 10 years. But ever since the federal government became a cancerous leviathan, the outrage is now an annual occurrence.

The first census in 1790 asked a bare minimum of questions essential for establishing congressional districts of equal populations... In the 223 years since, the census has spawned an entire federal bureaucracy with tentacles reaching into the farthest hidden crannies of the country. It asks darkly invasive questions that are unnecessary at best...

The feds want to know exactly who you are and the color of your skin... they want to know your “relationships” with all the people in your house... These creepos even want to know how many bedrooms you have and all about your plumbing and even your “fertility” ...the federal fertility probe is crucial, they tell us, as “a basic planning tool for agencies of the government.” What? And, of course, they want to know exactly how much you are making, including wages, tips and even that loan you got from your grandmother.

And you'd better tell them, or else you're in deep shit.

Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, last week introduced Senate Bill 530 to remove the criminal penalty for those who refuse to take part in this annual federal creep-fest that is not even required by the Constitution.

~Opinion: Charles Hurt

Do you find this kind of intimate bureaucratic interest in your life intrusive and vaguely creepy?

1) It's not annual. It takes place every 10 years.
2) "The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct." (U.S. Constitution - Article 1, Section 2, Paragraph 3)

The Washington Times has always been an entertaining read. One of my coworkers used to subscribe and he'd get all pissed when I'd read it after him and start laughing hysterically.

The OP is about something called "The American Community Survey" which is the most intrusive door to door canvassing that noone her ever heard of.[8D]

http://www.census.gov/acs/www/

To help communities, state governments, and federal programs, we ask about:

•age
•sex
•race
•family and relationships

•income and benefits
•health insurance
•education
•veteran status

•disabilities
•where you work and how you get there
•where you live and how much you pay for some essentials

I don't know about you but if I were in local government of a town that was growing or shrinking, this info would be golden for making the citizen's lives easier.

Maybe you should wander the web over to Google.

American Community Survey

The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing statistical survey that samples a small percentage of the population every year

Yeah boy, that sure is some exhaustive and intrusive prying into every aspect of your personal life. How dare they try to find out how many veterans are in a community.

Attica! Attica! Attica!!

Maybe you should proofread your posts before starting a new thread?.. Your OP didn't mention the ACS but it mentioned the census twice. [8|]

Ahem... "an annual occurance" wouldn't be the Census.

Maybe you should stop assuming shit.

From your very own OP: "Rage over ... something that bubbles up only every 10 years. But ... the outrage is now an annual occurrence."

The first sentence forms a logical link to the second one, implying that it's still talking about the census. And nowhere in your post does it mention the ACS.

Maybe you should spend less time cursing at online strangers and more time learning to put together a coherent statement.

One option (which worked well in my case) is to answer all the questions with my dog's details.

Sadly my dog has gone to the great kennel in the sky so I'll have to find a new way of avoiding such invasions of my privacy. I'm thinking a budgie ....... [:D]

PS: any creative suggestions will be gratefully received.

When I was just a wee kid, we had a parakeet. Unbeknownst to me, we actually had several. My parents wanted to spare me the loss of my little pal, so they'd get another one that looked the same. That was the longest-lived parakeet known to Man.

Maybe you could just get another dog? When a friend of mine lost his dog Pete, that's what he did. Named his new dog Re-Pete, and called him Pete for short. Just a thought. Who'd know?

I've got lots of pet jokes. [:D]

FR,

First answer:" "No hablo Espanol."
After that, every question in a language other than Spanish will be that same answer.
If they ask in Spanish, answer, "Hey, asshole! I told you I don't speak Spanish!"

read the article...

What article? The court opinion you linked to? Just admit that your composition (or copy-pasting) skills suck and move on already. If you show the OP to 100 people, most of them would assume you're talking about the census, not about some obscure government questionnaire that isn't mentioned once in your post.

Notsweet -> RE: U.S. Govt to Citizens: Tell us Everything or Else (3/22/2013 6:07:03 AM)

Funny, but without reading the article, I still figured out that this wasn't the Census, but a different questionaire. Also, I knew that it was the feeling of outrage that would happen every year, instead of once every ten years.

Aside from that, it's easy for the government to collect information without having to put citizens on the spot to answer, or in jail. How many vets? There's a Veterans Administration--they should have this information. If it needs to be collected, they should collect it. As to the rest, "small samples" lead to very poor statistics.

Actually, your OP should have referred to the 10 year census that has inspired such intrusion as the ACS [HERE]

Even the article doesn't refer to it until half way down. Not putting the actual annual survey in your post does leave a confusion that simply didn't need to remain. Just give us the ACS and link it...you didn't.

You might want to acquaint yourself with the protocols of asnt before you make such ignorant assumptions.
